Yeti and I were having a discussion about being politically correct. He felt that there would never be a time where USA could be politically correct enough to satisfy every minority or majority's qualms of injustice. I said that was not true in my observation in the case of using the word African Americans.
He pointed out throughout history different terms for races have been accepted at the time but then considered racist in later generations. He said once Colored was accepted publicly but was now taboo. He also pointed out that there were some people who were offended by being called black which was an acceptable term not too long ago. In his opinion, African American too may someday be considered racist.
I said I did not feel that was the case since African American, in my opinion, is as politically correct a term when referring to a black person born in USA but with African decedents, as terms can get.
What do you think? And just on this one issue, do you think this term is as politically correct as possible or do you think that ppl will still be offended.
