I tend to write a lot about the intolerances that afflict America both as a society and as a country. I do not back down from or ignore bigotry or racism, in a form, when I see it or when faced with it. I also have and always will believe in the idea of free will, as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. So that is why I have a hard time trying to understand the current ‘Tea Party” protests and those that are associated with them, especially when I see individuals carrying signs and messages that clearly have racist tendencies and undertones.
There is a song by one of my favorite bands “Tesla” titled “Signs” which is about judging people by the way the look, which came into mind when I saw the many signs laced with hatred and undertones of racism being carried by many of the attendees in the Washington Tea Party protest and other like it. I find it funny that in spite of signs comparing President Obama to Hitler and to a monkey, the organizers and leaders of the Tea Party movement deny that their anger filled and volatile protests are in way fueled by racism. Their denials are hard to believe when you see someone carrying a sign that reads “Save White America” as a protester did in a San Antonio Tea Party rally.
It would be unfair to lump all the members of the Tea Party movement together, but it is hard not to do so when even the leaders of this movement tend to show their intolerant views as did Mark Williams when he appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360” and called the President an “Indonesian Muslim Turned Welfare Thug”. How can any intelligent person not see this statement as racist is beyond me?
“Impeach Osama Obama AKA Hussein” “Obama Nomics Monkey See Monkey Spend” “Save White America” “We want our Country Back”
Signs depicting President Obama as Hitler, as an evil white faced clown, as a purse snatcher robbing a old white woman, as a witch doctor, signs asking for the lynching and burning of President Obama, signs carried by someone wearing an NRA cap that read “We didn’t bring our guns this time” another read “Don’t make us come back”.
Then there were the many Confederate flags that seemed to be every where. And for some unexplained reason all these signs and Confederate flags were being carried and demonstrated by , can I say it?, Ann Coulter and Archie Bunker and Bubba look alikes. What a real shocker?
In the end it quite apparent that there is some sort of small-mindedness and intolerance that is fueling these Tea Party protests and it would be idiotic to believe or say other wise. The Tea Parties might have had some legitimacy at some point but it was all lost once it chose to associate itself with the fringe and extremists of our society, as it should have.
“Just Say No To Racism” That is my sign.

It is this intolerate attitude toward anyone who disagrees with your ideology that is a large part of what is wrong with this country.
