Can you solve the Montauk Monster Mystery?

Did you see this strange mystery creature they found in Panama?  It's unknown what exactly what the "thing" is although some believe it could be a mutated monkey, sloth, or even an alien being.  It's appearance is hairless, slimy and gross to many, resembling some strange form of ET the Extra Terrestrial, or even Gollum the popular CGI character from the Lord of the Rings movies.

The "Montauk Mosnter" as it's been nicknamed was discovered by a group of four kids hiking near a cave.  Suddenly, one saw the strange creature crawling out of a cave, and out of fear the kids grabbed sticks to start attacking the slow moving "thing".  Soon the poor creature was dead, and as of now it's still a mystery what exactly it is...The story has generated a huge buzz on the internet, and lead to pictures and video coverage on Telemetro, a Spanish website, but it really hasn't received much coverage here in The United States.  So is it animal, alien, monster, or just some crazy hoax to get publicity?

It doesn't look photoshopped...I LOATHE that we humans seem to fear anything different, and tend to beat the LIFE out of things that are! This REALLY ticks me off! Shame on those kids!!Shame!!!!!!!!!

I am LIVID that these kids killed an innocent creature, no matter what it is. It was NOT threatening them, it was moving slowly out of the cave. They did it because they could, and they need to be severely punished!

I had seen this. The article that I read seemed to suggest that this was an embryo of a known creature, but after looking at it, I think that may be a stretch.

If I saw a freakish thing coming out of a cave, I probably wouldn't wait around to deal with it at all. Probably a hoax.

stange looking, like those hairless dogs or pigs out in Mexico. To bad it was killed. I know if i seen it, I probaly would have runaway, I sure wouldnt have killed it.

I think they felt like they had to conquer a monster,
I believe that some Animal had a Miscarriage, not fully developed fetes.
