Joseph Dado, an 18-year-old Penn State freshman who disappeared after leaving a fraternity party early Sunday, was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell in the university's Hosler Building. He had apparently suffered a fatal fall from the stairs.
This is a sad beginning to the school year at Penn State. Sadder still is the fact that this was, in all likelihood, preventable. While toxicology results are pending, the fact that Dado was last seen alive leaving a frat party at 3 a.m. on Sunday paints a pretty clear picture of what happened.
Regardless of the circumstances, though, an 18-year-old is dead. His life ended just when he was beginning to test the waters of adulthood.
