Putting In a Sidewalk--Photo Essay

I got the videos in of my son and my boyfriend putting in the sidewalk so now it's time for the photo essay.

Steve loves that I take the opportunity all I can to get photos and such to share on gather.

After spending all day on Labor Day just digging and making the form, Steve decided he was just going to call a cement truck to come in and pour the concrete.

Wrong!  He called and for that size they quoted him a price of $974....what?!?!

The total project with buying the tools, the wood for the framing, sand, concrete mix...and of course the concrete mixer cost just over $625.  However, there is still more concrete work to be done around the house....Steve and Johnathon are itching to get started on it too to use their new toy.  LOL

Impressive that they did it all themselves. My husband would've hired someone, no matter what it cost. In fact, he is thinking of having someone come and re-do our front walk. When we first moved in, the house was brand new and had no walk. The builders gave us a couple of pieces of cement but they didn't fill in the cracks. It looks terrible. We've been here for 9 years and it is continually getting worse and worse. Hubby has been complaining about it forever. We decided that we will have it re-done in the Spring. I can't wait. I have tripped on it so many times.

They did a great job, BTW.

Guess what? The City here is broke.......now they're going around to homeowners to try and "bleed" money from them....we found out that we HAVE to have a partial new sidewalk.........they've marked about 7 or 8 sidewalks up and down our street..........so for a small portion, my hubby said it could cost around $1,000.....we are NOT allowed to replace it ourselves...the City HAS to do it..
Oh well, I'll just say "charge it." They can just add it on to our property taxes, as I refuse to pay one huge bill. What a ripoff....we have NO say so in the matter.....the City makes ALL the decisions!
Guess it's not that way in smaller places.....your boyfriend was very lucky that he was able to do the work. We are not permitted to.....LOL!!!!!!

Nice sidewalk, they did a great job! I was lucky, we did the same at our house, but they were building new houses on our block, and we were able to get the cement for $75, the left over cement on the truck after they had laid the foundation on a house being built.
