THE MENTALIST
- Crime Takes On a New Set of Rules -

The Mentalist, starring Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, is an independent consultant in the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) based out of Sacramento, California. Patrick Jane has an outstanding track record for solving serious crimes through intense observation. Jane also uses his mentalist abilities with his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium who feigned paranormal abilities. All such pretense was abandoned when his attention-seeking behavior enticed & provoked a serial killer who ended up killing Jane's wife & daughter.
Because the character, Jane has the ability to notice seemingly small insignificant details & present conclusions to major criminal investigations, the storyline plots bring a 'who done it' crime scene program back to life.
Jane is haunted by the 'Red John' serial murders who is the killer of his wife & daughter, all out of retaliation for one of Jane's' mocking stints while en circuit as a paranormal medium.

Jane is intelligent, eccentrically brilliant, charming, & genuine as he pivots through each investigation, side by side with his crime fighting cohorts. He unbashingly gains the friendship & respect of his fellow colleagues, but never strays far from knowing that 'Red John' is his main goal & his direct - if not intense - purpose in finding - no matter what the cost.

CBI Team Agents:
Teresa Lisbon, played by Robin Tunney
Kimball Cho, played by Kim Kang
Wayne Rigsby, played by Owain Yeoman
Grace VanPelt, played by Amanda Righetti
CBI Agents investigate a variety of crimes & Jane aids each investigation with his own unique elements & experience as a mentalist. He watches human behavior & reactions while using hypnosis & auto suggestions. He is then able to set side traps where the suspects & needed witnesses reveal the truth behind the case.
Working through his own pain & guilt due to the death of his wife & daughter, Jane becomes the leading inspiration within the team as he continues to effectively hunt down 'Red John' while actively working side by side with them. 'Red John' in turn continues to leave him the same dubious clue, a blood traced image of a smiley face.
Disturbing psychology amidst criminal scenes & investigations, The Mentalist will keep your interested just long enough to make you the investigator along side Jane. Neat, clever, & hip, this tv series is well worth the tag of an intelligent drama too.
The Mentalist crime show television series began Sept. 2008 First Season & the Second Season begins Sept. 2009 on CBS.
The information on the shows I review is compiled through various tv, cable programming news & related info. I have taken an interest in reviewing network shows that not only do I enjoy week to week, but that hold an intent & purpose to help change the world that we live in for the good. It is all about being the change I want to see in the world - today! Thank you.
