author: Dan Brown
NO SPOILERS!
Although I had this book on reserve at the library, when I saw it just sitting on the shelf, I grabbed it up! I told the librarian to delete it from the reserve listing - there were over 1700 people ahead of me! Glad I saw it on the day it came out!
I was still reading another book, so I didn't start this one until Friday. And finished it on Saturday.
Yes, it's a page turner, although it starts slower than his other books.
I didn't find it as thrilling, maybe perhaps there wasn't as much NEW information for me. I've read up on the Masons already. One plus, the body count is MUCH lower... Angels and Demons had too many bloody deaths for me, actually.
I've never been comfortable with Tom Hanks playing Robert Langdon, but since I've seen the movies of the earlier books, there he was in my imagination as this lead character.
Again, Langdon receives a summons... this time to Washington, D.C. Again, there's a woman sidekick, and a person who you cannot trust (a few of those) - who's side are they on anyway. And of course, lots of symbols and puzzles.
It's a fun read and might do something good for tourism in our nation's capital.

As to the Lost Symbol, I will just observe that when you become a "niche" writer who specializes in secret societies and historical puzzles and religious conspiracies, it gets to be darn hard to avoid becoming a "formula fiction" author. But his paychecks probably look darn good to him.
I used to work in DC, so I am hoping that all the references to the city make up for what may be formulaic writing on Brown's part.
Thanks for the review! I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you'd be the first to read it!
