Wow, here I am on day 35, the eating pause. I have been doing all the exercises in the days in between which have been focusing on being aware of the amount of food it takes to feel full, what it feels like to feel different levels of fullness, and what it feels like to break up food intake into smaller meals spaced out during the day.
I have noticed that my emotional hunger (or not feeling satisfied by my food intake) is much greater than my physical hunger. The emotional hunger wants only certain types of foods, which are not really nutritionally good foods. So I stop to ask myself, what is it that I really want?
Everytime I ask that question, there can be a different answer. Right now I would love to go outside in the sunshine and enjoy the day, instead of being here sitting behind a desk, answering the telephone and working. Other times it could be I want to take a nap, or go for a walk, or just be alone. I truly see my pattern of emotional eating.
Now the quest becomes how do I get my emotional needs met without food?
