Let’s discuss the difference between a child’s rough play and violent child behavior.
Sometimes, the difference is hard to determine when children get excited. Boys, especially, are more likely to be rough. They indulge in roughhousing, mock fighting and other such boisterous play.
There is no foolproof way of telling that your child is being violent or rough and so the best way is to trust your parenting instincts.
If you get the feeling that your child’s rough behavior is too rough to be controlled and he has crossed the limits, it is safe to assume that your child has transcended the differentiating line between roughhousing and violent child behavior. In a worst case scenario, your child may need child beh
avioral help.
If there are two children, and if one of them wants to stop and the other doesn’t, then it is a strong sign that parents should intervene, as the situation could well be out of control.
Roughhousing is normal but violence is not. Children may lose control if they get violent. If they do not learn to control it, they get into a lot of problems when they get older. It all depends on how you perceive this.
In the present society, violence is everywhere from video games, television, to children’s toys. This is a factor for which a child’s tolerance level for violence has gone up, also with adults. What was seen as violent 10 years ago, is now accepted as being normal by many adults because they are bombarded by it everyday throughout several media sources.
So, sometimes, when parents feel their kid’s actions have crossed to violent child behavior, this may really be the case. But others parents may perceive such actions as normal behavior.
Often, it is not easy to distinguish whether or not a child is being violent or just roughhousing. Nevertheless, the significant signs of violence are:
- Your intuition.
- If your child does not stop even when the other party wants him to.
No one ever said parenting was easy, but is will be simpler once you have the correct tools to parent effectively. Again, trust your gut feeling.
