what would you do if????

I was looking at aol's main page again.  I came across a story that involved spanking.  I thought at 1st "oh no someone spanked thier OWN child and got in trouble.

I could not have been more wrong.  Apparently this lady in Ohio was at a thrift shop and this stranger was in the store, well apparently the child said something she does not like and she told the mom basically you don't know how to take care of your child.  She then put the child over her knees and spank the child 3 times.

Okay let me say this,  It would not have been her who went to jail, it would have been me.  I would have decked the lady.  NOBODY but me or my hubby is to ever spank my child.  I don't spank that often, but I  am telling you now someone other then my husband or I put thier hands on my child there would be major problems (that does not include grandparents)..

 

Okay my question off the day is, what would you have done if someone did this to your child???

I do beleive in spanking my own children, or giving permission to a realitive to spank if need be, but if a perfect stranger decided to spank my child, then I'd probably end up in jail for assault and battery on said person.

I actually don't know if you would end up in jail if someone was hitting your child because the courts might consider it self defense in defense of another or something like that.

Sadly, these days you can end up in jail for defending yourself or others from being stabbed to death. All it would take would be for the other person to press charges. Its sad that our whole justice system seems to be set up to protect the guilty.

I would have knocked that lady out for touching my kid. I would have dealt with my own child. That lady had know rights to touch the other ladies kid at all.

I agree with Winona! If some random person took Kenzie from me and began to spank her, I would call the police and have them arrested!

I agree but the lady wouldn't have a chance to touch my child, mothers protect, they just don't let someone grab there child and spank them....

I believe in spanking too but no one other than my husband and I will spank my children. I have 3 ages 19,15 and 7 and I don't allow hitting between them three. I'm not violent at all but that lady wouldn't have had a chance to grab my child to spank her, as soon as she said something, I would have told her then to mind her business.

I would have been furious. Sure, my child (if I had one) might have deserved it, but unless I gave the woman permission to spank my child, she had no right to do it. I deal with unruly children on occasion and I would never touch them unless it was to grab their arm or something to pull them away from harm or away from hurting someone else and even then the reason had to be extreme.

A lot of parents don't discipline their children by physical means, anyway, so this would be doubly wrong.

Well I'm glad she got tossed in jail. I'd think she'd know better especially after that guy at Walmart.
If someone did that to one of my kids, I'd have that person arrested.
What is it with the adults acting like children and expecting the children to act like adults these days?!

I agree with all of the above.....right on the money carolyn how did the stranger have the oppertunity to pick up the child.....I'mean I know you cannot aways have you eyes on your kids but at TWO why wasn't the child in a cart?

The woman just could have told the child it wasn't a nice thing to say and go elsewhere. I was at the grocery store one day and this boy with some man asked "What are you doing doggy wipe? to me. I gave him a stern look, got around to the next isle and bust out laughing because while it was rude, it was funny. :)

I had an ex-friend who had the habit of letting her little monster raise holy hell while she verbally corrected my shy child. After a day of it, I screamed at her and told her to put her kid on a leash complete with muzzle and shock collar.

If anyone physically hurt my child, I would allow them to feel physical pain until they complied to acting like an adult. When it comes to my kids, I'd beat the tar out of anyone no matter who or how big if they hurt them.

I would have taken my child and knocked her off the chair at the same time. Then I would have put my foot on her throat and made her beg my child for forgiveness. I am sure she would have...rather than have her windpipe crushed, then I would have left the store with my child, knowing that while she wasn't badly physically hurt, she wouldn't pull that on anyone else's kid. At my weight, she would have been terrified.

If I saw and heard what my child said and the child was wrong I would have the child apologize for doing wrong. It is the parents who coddle a child who does wrong and not make them responsible for their actions that has made the children today so bad and unresponsive.

I got bent out of shape once when my father threatened to spank one of my kids. (for something insignificant)
These types of attacks make a new reason to teach stranger danger.

My kids would not have been far enough away from me for someone to do that to. I kept really close watch on them at that age, and older. Even in "small town America." If somehow it did happen, that person would have had both assault and child abuse charges filed against her.

I beleive in time out, or take something away from them for a while. No one spanks my kids, or grandkids. "That I know of"
