John Stewart Asks Where was the real media on the Obamacorn!

I saw this on the news today. The ACORN people advised them to call themselves a spa or massage parlor. They were truly advising the undercover videographers on how to break the law. Somehow, I don't think "retraining" is going to help. Dishonest persons know when they are being deceitful. Training classes are not going to correct immorality.

If the total that might have been stolen is the $3,500,000 I saw on TV last night, that is only about $0.10 or ten cents a person. Compare that to the bank bailouts. Spending your attention and effort on Acorn is a waste of time.

Carol, the government and big corporations are stealing trillions from us and you want me to ignore that and concentrate on a small time scam? I don't defend organized crime such as prostitution. I don't defend fraud. But I try to solve problems, not just point and blame. If Acorn had never existed and had never been funded by the government in any way would that have made any difference at all in your income or your standard of living or your health? I seriously doubt it. But the insurance companies and corporate food and the drug companies and the banks and so forth have badly hurt your income and probably affected your health. They are the threat, not Acorn.

Why do you care so much about something so trivial? Sure they are guilty and at least some should go to jail for a time. That might even make you feel better. But it won't solve any problems. It will just replace one scam with another.

ACORN has been on this path since at least 1995 and was again very recently let off the hook by this particular administration when I.G. Walpin was fired because of what he found out about Americorps/Acorn.

Everyone has been covering for them for a very long time, no matter how much people complained.

It is about time their stuff was brought out into the light. All parties represented in and many members of Congress are tainted by this. Not just the Libs and not just Obama ----

They (Congress who supports it as well as ACORN and it's tentacled associates) are actually part and parcel of most everything you cited to Carol.

Maybe to prevent little trivial crimes from escalating into bigger one. I've heard time and again about how criminals start out with the petty crimes and escalate as time goes on and they get away with the petty crimes.

Whereas I can point to all those bad loans and all those people whose retirement funds have been destroyed and all those people who can no longer make their mortgage payments and all those people who have lost their jobs. Just compare the scale of the problems, Lee.

Okay, I'll give it a go even though I'm pretty sure you've heard it all already. Acorn has been complicit at the very least in creating a climate in which those bad loans were accepted and became acceptable generally.

Somehow I have the feeling that ACORN just isn't that powerful. I really don't think they were in control of all those bankers who loaned all that money and took all those huge risks with other people's money. I don't think ACORN controlled those bond rating agencies. I don't think ACORN controlled Greenspan and the others responsible for regulating those financial institutions. If you can make that case I will really be impressed.

This is such a serious topic, but I couldn't help laughing while watching it.

I remember ACORN came here in 2004 to register people to vote and they presented themselves as non-partisan. They also tried their hand at getting residents of this area organized to solve the problems posed by absentee landlords. They did successfully manage to call one of the worst out and got some news coverage on it. By the time the election took place, they were gone and the local group dissolved.

They weren't around at all in 2008. We had many other activist groups come by to make sure people were registered. Lots of ground troops of local folks walking door to door for Obama. None of them were ACORN.

I once worked for McDonald's for 3 months many years ago. Am I responsible in any way for all the obesity caused by that chain? That's how much sense it makes to link Obama with ACORN's ills.

EM JAY, are you not aware that Obama was working and training ACORN people? Perhaps you should do some digging on your own and not listen to the propaganda of the 'fringe' media.

The 'fringe' media isn't doing their job. Fox is about the only news organization that is on top of journalism these days. The rest are holding back to keep the masses (shrinking as they are) uninformed so they can feed them the propaganda that's coming from the White House. The march on Washington, D.C. was ignored, even spoken of in derogatory terms, and that is only fueling the fire in the middle American hearts. Liberals beware, the giant silent majority has awakened, and they are pissed!

Fringe is right ... when one of the "top" "journalists" in the country can say he didn't even know what ACORN was or what the story was irt it ... C. Gibson was it?

And when the Speaker of the House doesn't even know about a vote to shut down the funding for ACORN .... we have a media/communication/ awareness problem, not a right wing problem.

And it's not the fault of Fox.

Personally, I've found out a lot more than Fox can provide in the news that is eye-opening for me even though I am a conservative voter. But, with the internet and so many sites to browse, we can educate ourselves with a little bit of effort. I do watch Fox, but there are sites with the government and government agencies who these folks in the administration are affiliated with, that it's pretty easy to follow-up and follow the links provided by the government agencies. You can really learn a lot on your own if you have the initiative.
