Meet Wiley, my three year old American Eskimo Spitz dog.

He is a great protector. One night I was home alone and heard someone trying to get in the back door.

Wiley began to bark at the back door like someone was there. He sounded like he was going to eat them up. He does not allow strangers on the place. I was uneasy all the rest of the night. Later that night my husband called to check on me. I told him what had happened. I thought I must have been hearing things and Wiley picked up on my fear.

About a week later I was talking to a neighbor and someone tried to break into her home as well as two other neighbors home that same night. I then realized that I was not hearing things. The neighbor said that the Sheriff wanted us all to contact him and let him know what we had seen or heard that night. Together we all came up with times, a strange truck being parked on the street and one neighbor saw the intruders.

The sheriff said that my dog Wiley had probably scared the intruder off from our home. He said that indoor dogs are the best source of protection from intruders because they are afraid of getting bit by the dog.

They say "dogs are mans best friend? but they are wrong.

Dogs are womans best friend as well. My dog Wiley looks out for me and he always lets me know anytime anyone comes on our property. I love Wiley and he is part of our family. In fact our daughters tease me and say he is their brother. LOL

you took some great shots of him, Connie.
I know that when Matt travels I feel very safe at home because I have three very protective "friends" at home with me :)
Last year the day before Halloween someone came into our backyard late at night. The dogs freaked out, and I was almost certain that I heard someone. I called my husband (He was at work) so he came home and stayed home the rest of the night. The gate was left open when they left, so I KNOW that my dogs scared whoever it was off.
They are know by the police and most of the utlities company,,, even the UPS man who delivers to us know of our pup pups...
Your his mommy, so, of course, he would protect you. Even very laid-back dogs will generally go into defensive mode if someone poses a threat to their families (packs).
Some cats are good guards, too. While they aren't pack animals in the same sense as dogs, some are good at alerting people to problems.
