We watched two DVDs last night, thanks to Movie Cube. Both were supposed to be comedies, both failed at that. But "Adventureland" was worth watching. Starring Jesse Eisenberg as a sort of grown up (he's graduated from college), Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds and Martin Starr as employees of Adventureland amusement park. The games are all rigged, the employees frequently stoned, the high school antics still prevail, but the rather slow moving movie allows you a peak into the characters' motivations.
My favorite scene in the movie is of Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Martin Starr watching fireworks. It's subtle and ordinary, yet real and telling as well.
Kristen Stewart is given the opportunity to show a full range of emotions. While I still kept thinking of her as being 17 instead of the movie age of roughly 21, she made the movie for me.
This is not full of gross or crude jokes, nor an action movie but a movie that slowly unravels its story. There were some laughs and some sad, sad times, too. We liked it.

And I was very pleasantly introduced to the acting of Jesse Eisenberg. I think he could be the next Michael Cera. Do you know what I mean? Kind of fulfill that kind of niche of actors.
Don't rent "Then She Found Me," if you want a comedy. Why anyone thought anything about that movie was funny is beyond me.
