What's your view on hunting?

I am all for hunting because we eat the meat! It sure saves on having to buy it.

I hunted when I was younger. I now don't have the heart to kill an animal though I do enjoy the meat.

The world is made up of hunters and gatherers. The hunters are usually out in the wilderness, braving the elements. The gatherers are at the Swap Meet. I'm usually at the swap meet looking for bargain books all about hunters.

I am very conflicted over it... I grew up with it and when I was a kid there was a time that was the only way we had meat.. It has always been a way of life in my world.

However, it has gotten out of hand. Any dufus can by a gun and do what he calls "hunting". I think it should only be done buy highly trained gun handler now that are required to follow a set of ethics and it should be regulated all the way.

When done without high tech gadgets and on the ground in pursuit of an animal, with out ambushing like in a stand and on a controlled "game farm", its fine. You have to HUNT for the game in a natural environment for it to be ok , in my book.

It is necessary in game management... I have seen the effects of over population.. But this is because we have eliminated the natural predators that used to do the job.

What irritates me even more are the pictures of hunters sitting on a ridgeline with scopes, waiting for a deer to get a drink of water seven or eight hundred meters away. That's not hunting to me.

the high powered rifles & 3 foot scopes are for the crazy people out there. those are the ones who are more than likely drinking as well. going out in the woods with their buddies for a mental health weekend. please.

i have no problem with bow hunting & using any meat to supplement your families food resources.

I have known many a "hunter" who spent teh whole time at teh deer lease getting drunk and never fired a shot..

God put animals here for food, and as long as you are hunting and planning on using the animal for food, then I think it's fine...but just going out and murdering the animals is not okay in my book...

I grew up in a hunting family. Everyone I knew hunted. Now my husband and my children go hunting. That's what they are here for, as long as people are eating them and not just killing them for the trophy, there is nothing wrong with it!

I grew up on a farm where there was hunting. I'm now a vegetarian.

Not for me but to each his own as long as it is not one of those big game resorts where they provide targets for rich shooters that want an "adventure" and a trophy to hang on their wall

I'm a long time vegan and yes, one of those animal right people~hunting is unacceptable except for survival wherein every part of the animal is used and it is dispatched humanely~
trophy, sport and culling hunting are disgusting practices~
culling is due to human overpopulation~humans encroach EVERYWHERE~and it seems their resolution is always a kill kill tactic~vile

culling is a natural process that was intended to be performed by preditors.. which we have almost totally wipped out.. so what would you do to take theri place in the natural world? Le tthem die of desease and starvation?

predators have been wiped out by humans~humans are the cause of all this sorrow~you don't want to know my reslolution~and I'm not in the mood to share it~

My dad grew up hunting with his dad and brothers because that what guys did in rural Northeast Florida. He has said that as he grew older he grew to love and care for animals and did not want to be the cause of their death. I will never hunt and my fiance has never hunted. We do not have it in us to kill animals. My fiance even has problems with smashing bugs. That being said as long as it is for food and the animals are not overhunted then people should be able to hunt. They should have to hunt on the ground though and not from a helicopter or in a pen where "canned" hunting takes place.

It's definitely not for me. You won't see me and Dick Cheney out hunting together any time soon.

I guess it's OK for people who are starving. Otherwise, it's disgusting. There's no need for anyone who is able to feed a family otherwise to commit murder.

If I were starving, I'd kill whatever I could. I'm not starving, so I don't hunt. Other than a few ants, flies, and other bugs, I can't remember ever killing an animal. I love shooting, don't hunt.

I don't like it but every year my hubby spends the month of October in a hunting camp. He loves the outdoors and even though he doesn't hunt he cooks for the hunters there .

I hate it! I live in the country and the property next to mine attracts hunters every season. I can't tell you how many times I see them dragging the animal down the mountain side. Last year, I'll never forget, some fool guy was dragging a deer down the trail. All of a sudden, the animal got up and ran away. Now I thought they were suppose to gut them before they brought them down the mountain. All I can say is I was one happy girl. I've always been on the side of the underdog! Unless someone needs to feed his family, then leave the animals alone. We worry too much about the population control of animals and soon there won't be any of them left to worry about!

I am too sensitive. I empathize with the prey too much. I don't even feel comfortable fishing. But since we killed the predators, we have to kill their former prey or they all dies of starvation.

I don't have the heart to hunt BUT my next door neighbor does and he gives us some of the venison at times. I don't mind the gift of meat. I do disagree with just hunting to hunt - if you are cutting down on the population so that they don't take over then that is a good reason BUT just to stuff a head and put it on your wall is disgusting.

AS with Dexter, I gre up with "Hunting season" - Dear, elk, pheasant anD other birds. It 'w a way of survival in many partts of the world, including the U.S.

I think it's fine if you do it for food or to control overpopulation due to man's manipulation of the ecosystem. But, I really don't care for trophy hunting, though. And, I despise anyone who does poaching.

I live in an area where most every male and quite a few females hunt and/or fish. It is part of life and everyone eats what they hunt/catch, so it's not just for the sport.
