Wow, that sounds really freaky, but it also sounds like the dream came just in time. I'm glad you were able to find her safe and unharmed.

I personally think, without any medical backing for my theory, that our brain unconsciously notices signs and clues of things that are a bit different than normal and probably our unconscious mind can work out clues in the dream to give you a hint about something or someone. I know a nightmare can just be due to a migraine or other issues, but sometimes I notice after a dream it feels like my brain was warning me something didn't quite add up lately about someone's behavior before something happened. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to happen frequently.

I am glad she is OK. I don't know much of the background, so I hope my saying so is not inappropriate, but my cousin used to sleepwalk and they lived near a highway, and they thought of this idea. Would you consider putting an alarm system in your house and putting the alarm on at night so that you hear the alarm being disarmed (it makes a beeping noise when you punch in the code) or an alarm sounds if not disarmed before someone leaves the house? You can rent them monthly I think. That way you would know when she is leaving but she will feel it is just an alarm for general safety.

I do have an alarm system, locks on the windows, and an alarm outside her door. Hence, my home is a prison.

I had step children like that in one point of my life. I worried they would never make it out of there teens. But they did as will your daughter. I hope she grows past this soon. She is the only one who can make certain she will be okay. I applaud you as a parent for your constant watchfulness.

I think sometimes a mother's instinct works in strange ways. I fear your daughter is going to get herself into a harmful situation someday and you won't be able to rescue her. Children like your daughter represent a tremendous challenge for their parents. When she was placed into your hands someone was looking out for her because not every parent would be able to handle her. I wonder if these behavioral outburst are an indication that she is testing you. Maybe there is something in her subconscious that reminds her that parents can't be trusted and she is compelled to keep testing you to see if your going to give up on her. Someday she is going to be very grateful for all the patience you have had with her.

I think that's very wise, Linda. The doctor calls it transference. She has at times thought I said or did something that I in no way would have done. The doctor told me about this. She sure is testing me.

Wow. I'm glad you did get to her in time, before something seriously bad happened. I can't imagine my 16 yr. old taking the car....or even sneaking out (I'm a terribly sleeper)
