I'm not a smoker but when I was 20 I did smoke. I told myself I was just a casual smoker. When I started buying my own cigarettes, I realized that I'd developed a habit. Finally, I decided to keep track of how many cigs I smoke in a day and by bedtime I realized I'd smoked 7 cigarettes... 7 was more than I'd ever smoked in a day ever.
I cut back by one a day and by the end of the week, I was done with smoking. I know 7 a day may not seem like a lot to some but it was a lot to me. Occasionally if I am at a club or out with friends, I'll take a puff after I've had some booze but I don't smoke regularly at all.
So do you smoke and if so how much and what's your preferred brand?

I smoke Winston 100's and I smoke a little over a pack a day. More if I am sitting at the computer playing games.
Her sister Marian, was a chain smoker. She was great! I related well to her despite our big age difference. I would sit outside with her and we would laugh and laugh.
Marian, I think from the shock of my Grandmothers death, died a few weeks later from a heart attack.
Truly makes you wonder...as they had the same parents...the same genetics..
When I stop and think about it I guess its kind of funny that I don't smoke. Growing up both of my brothers smoked. My dad smoked. Several other family members smoked. But I never had the urge to light up for the first time.
Lucky me.
I still smoke sometimes, but it's in my dreams. :)
3 packs of Canel non filters a day (60).
I didnt touch anything until about 2003 when I got married again.
Started smoking cigars, swisher sweets, blunts.
I may smoke anywhere between 4 to 10 a day, depending on how much stress I have.
Its pleasurable or I would quit.
Probably will when it becomes just a habit.
I have for years.
Excellent resource.
Folks the addiction has a chain for some. Discourage smoking constantly. I started when it was cool, even Luci and Desi smoked.
I ran into some of the local 'bad kids' who were smoking and drinking at the 7-11 one afternoon. I was skipping school and so were they. One of the girls offered me a puff and I took it.
They all got a laugh b/c I lipped the cigarette incorrectly and I got smart and told them, "Well, smoking isn't really my thing. I prefer vodka and rum."
I was lying, of course! But, I didn't want to look stupid in fron of these bad/cool kids.
The next day at lunch, they walked over to my table, took my arm and walked me to the back field. They all lit up, gave me my own pack of Winston-Salems and a thermos. It was full of vodka! I drank it one gulp. They were laughing again, b/c I was supposed to share it.
I was so sick.... I went to the office and the secretary asked if it was cramps. I agreed and slept until the busses came.
I practiced and practiced until I could smoke and look like I enjoyed it.
I did however, have an easy time with drinking. I loved it. I still do.
Befriending the bad/cool kids helped in the long run with the local gang problem; once they saw who I was friends with, they left me and my sisters alone.
***I have terrible asthma and finally quit when we left Denver. We moved to a small town in Maine where there was only moose, not gangs. I left that old persona behind.***
It has been 17 years now and quiting was the smartest thing I ever did. I look at people my age who still smoke and they look 10 years older then me and most of them have a hard time breathing. I am so glad I managed to quit and stuck with it.
My advice is to quit ASAP. Find another less self-destructive vice. There are plenty out there.
A great book, based on research of interviews with several thousand ex-smokers, is Changing for Good. You don't have to "reinvent the wheel".
I gave someone the pack and haven't looked back since.
I quit everytime I put one out. LOL
