Newly appointed defensive captain Jerod Mayo of the New England Patriots left the MNF game last night with an injury during the first quarter. Belichick per his usual interview style is staying mum on the extent of the injury but sources state it appears like it was a knee injury but not as serious as Brady faced last year - meaning he won't be out a whole season. Mayo was hurt when fellow teammate Gary Guyton stepped on his leg during a run play.
It's still unknown how long he will be out and what effect it'll have on a defense that's desperately needing guidance from vets such as Mayo. With Seymour, Bruschi, Vrabel and Harrison all permanently stepping off the Gillette, the Patriots need as much defensive experience as they can get. Such was evident last night when the defense got trampled by the Bills offense for all of 59 minutes. Luckily, the boys stepped up with less than 50 seconds on the clock when their team needed them. Let's hope they do that more often in the upcoming games. And let's hope Mayo isn't out for too long. Stay tuned. More to come on that front.
