Ginseng is an herb that comes from the perennial plant having fleshy roots belonging to the Panax genus arriving from the Araliaceae family. In general there are two familiar categories of ginseng that are readily available in the world today.
Panax ginseng – which mainly comes from Asia, China and Korea
Panax quinquefolius - are also known as American or Canadian ginseng.
Both the American ginseng and the Asian ginseng roots are consumed orally, as the root is available sliced or whole in dried modes. In addition sometimes the leaf of the ginseng is also used although it is not as effective as the root.
Researchers have found that each of the above mentioned ginsengs is considered to possess exceptional remedial properties. The American ginseng displays properties that have a cold effect, which is beneficial for respiratory disorders and fever. On the other hand the Asian ginseng has hot properties that are excellent for enhancing circulation.
