Whiteout is an interesting suspense thriller about a U.S. Marshall (Kate Beckinsale) investigating some murders at a remote scientific research facility in Antartica. It is based on a graphic novel, and directed by Dominic Sena, who previously did Swordfish and Gone in Sixty Seconds.
The movie begins showing a Russian cargo plane flying over the Antarctic in 1957. The pilots are involved in some plot to murder the Russian soldiers on board, but things go wrong and the plane ends up crashing in the snow. Now, some fifty years later, a murder investigation uncovers the location of the plane, and it seems that someone is willing to kill to protect the contents of a mysterious box found on board the aircraft.
I thought this movie was pretty good, but not really memorable. It's worth a rental, but not for the price of going to see it at the theater.
