My mom just went into surgery this morning. She has three masses growing on her ovaries. She decided to visit the OB-GYN I used for my second child. My mom was in the room when he delivered my daughter. He is a great doctor but I'm still nervous.
Mom might have one or both ovaries removed, depending on the condition when he sees them. She also has a hernia so he will see what can be done about that. An oncologist will be there to analyze the masses and make sure they are not cancerous.
I did not get much sleep and I'm upset this morning. Has anyone has ovarian surgery and what is it like? I had two c-sections, but I'm sure that's different than laproscopic surgery. Just wondering what experiences you all might have had.
I will probably stay with mom for a day or two when she gets out. She is supposed to get out the same day but might be kept for a day or two. I will know by early afternoon. The doctor said either way she will need constant monitoring for at least 24 hours. If I am there, Dad can go pick up meds and anything else she needs.
By the way, thanks for all your prayers and positive thoughts, they make a BIG difference.

Also, the big surgery I had to remove my ovary and have repairs done was a piece of cake compared to my vaginal hysterectomy. I didn't get an infection but stayed in the hospital for 6 days back in 2002, due to pain..I have Fibromyalgia. I hope that helps.
I'm glad that you feel a bit better and I know that your mom is thankful that you will be there for her!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Mom, Stacey! God bless!
Your hysterectomy was certainly a difficult road. It is reassuring know you are healthy and happy now :)
Hugs
I had a full hysterectomy in 2003. Because of my sleep apnea and breathing problems I was on oxygen and they were keeping a good eye on me afterwards. I was in the hospital for 4 or 5 days, and I was very happy when they let me go home. The sweetest thing that happened was that my late Dad drove all the way down to the hospital to bring me flowers, he was so worried about me. Of all the times I was in the hospital he had never ever visited me there.
I really had an easier time that I thought. They made a bikini cut below my stomach instead of going through it...and I really thought when I got home I would be in much more pain than I was and not as mobile as I was. I have never regretted it. I was such a mess and suffering for so many years...they biopsied all the stuff they took out and everything was caught in time so I didn't have to go through chemo.
There was some talk that the appendix problem this year was somehow related to my hystectomy surgery. I was surprised because of how many years had passed by.
One of my friend went through a horrendous ordeal after her hysterectomy as she was unaware right away that she had an infection. She wound up having three organs operated on because of all the complications and almost died, so if your Mom's pain is still intense when she gets home after a few days, have her get herself checked out. My friend thought it was normal for her to be in such pain and tried to wait it out, it was an infection making a big mess.
Thankfully, you and Sheri prepared me for the worst. Mom will have to be in the hospital at least until Thursday. She is on an IV, oxygen and a catheter and looked so pale.
Prayers make such a difference. I appreciate your wonderful prayer list and prayerful support, it means the world to me and my mom. It is also reassuring to know you and your friend survived all this and more. Thanks so much.
