Gather has many examples of small-minded, and impotent men who fear a powerful and effective woman in government.
Many comments by the marginally-adjusted men of the Right reflect their loathing of a woman who can out-think and out-maneuver them.
Such a thing ought not to be - in a God-fearing nation made for manly men.
The carping about Hillary Clinton reflected much of the same dynamic.
Many women hated Hillary, too.
Woman hated Hillary for having achieved all the things that were beyond their grasp - out-thinking and out-studying her rivals to master public discourse, exemplifying a successful working mother, salvaging her marriage after her husband's public infidelity.
But, I have not encountered as many women expressing hatred of Nancy Pelosi.
The exception, of course, is one Gather member with an extremely haggard and sagging-faced icon who continuously makes juvenile insults about the appearance of Nancy Pelosi.
Her comments reveal that her intellectual skills and communication skills leave much to be desired, but one would imagine that she could still grasp the incongruity of her carping.
One really needs to be far more attractive to complain about the looks of the Speaker of the House.
In response to comments of Stephanie, below, I have edited this article to note that:
* I do not believe that the appearance of some one is a significant element in assessing the credibility of their speech or the effectiveness of their actions
* When physical appearance is introduced as a criterion, however, I believe that one is free to apply the standard to the person who feels that this is significant.

I have heard Limbaugh, Hannity rant for long stretches of time about Nancy Pelosi.
Demonize her,
What on earth are they afraid of, competent, successful, mother, grandmother,
and most of all 3rd in line if something happens to our President.
They want the power for themselves.
They want more wars.
More citizens impoverished.
More money in their own pockets.
They are the same about any liberal/Democrat.
They are paid really well to keep the idiocracy in line.
The latest volleys were offered on a thread about the Obama healthcare address,.
The relevance of this phenomena would be the pervasive culture of secret-keeping, psychological denial, and lying that characterizes the GOP as a whole.
I don't understand how the appearance of the Speaker - the tired comments about her hair, face, clothes, etc. are relevant to an article about the President's address to Congress.
I quite agree.
It is not reasonable, but the effort to discredit an idea seems to evoke a desire to make them physically ugly.
In a recent article about Edgar Allan Poe, I mentioned your name.
Hence, this article.
And it's always a pleasure. I've been swamped.

If not, I will force myself (as penance) to read the op-ed piece by the GOP liar-de-jour in the NY Times.
There's no need for penance that will cause you physical distress, by the way. I don't want to be responsible for a headache or nausea -- or for yours, anyway.
I have seen other examples, Beaker, but the comments to which I refer in the article were made repeatedly by someone who really should not be inviting comparisons about physical beauty.
Appearance critiques as 'substututes' for thoughtful analysis of political content and issues is very tiresome and juvenile, yes.
Plus, America's well-deserved reputation for youth worship is ongoing and sometimes rather embarrassing in its superficiality! From which comes, i suppose, superficial snarks at a public person's looks.
I have vintage postcards featuring the place.

I failed to note your succinct and truthful remark.
Winston Churchill was "handsome."
Just two.
That is, indeed, true.
Because their ugly is more than skin deep.
Next thing you know, you'll be trying to fool everyone with logic and deductive reasoning.
Look at Aniko down there - she even has names for logical fallacies!
If A implies B (ugly women hate Nancy Pelosi), and you are not B, then you must be not A.
This is a new step in logical thinking (syllogistic reasoning).
Spokespersons for the rabid right are the only one's brave enough to embrace this "new logic", but I have always been an early adapter.
You are beautiful, and you do not stoop to commenting on a person's appearance.
Hillary is a strong, smart woman and while not ugly she is one of those rare women that have always relied on her brain and didnt give a hoot how she looked.
