Make believe or real?

Yesterday I had to take my 9 yr old daughter to one of her many doctor appointments. On the way there we were talking. She asked me if I remember the commercial with the bunch of money with eyes. I told her yes and asked her why was she asking me that. She asked me if it was real. I just smiled and told her it was not real. That the commercial was meant to be funny. She accepted my answer and laughs when she sees the commercial now.

 

I know at my daughters age, kids are still trying to figure out make believe from reality. What is something you you thought might of been real as a child but turned out it wasn't?

i have to say the big one for me was santa growing up
I remember I was about 5 when I found out there was no santa. My step sister was 12 I think before she realized it.

Santa Claus. I was heartbroken when I learned that he wasn't real.

I still believe

in everything!
I wish I still believed in some things. It would make life easier.

I honestly don't remember a transition from make-believe to reality. I can't remember a time that I thought anything was real. I remember being VERY young and watching a scary movie and knowing it was no real. I don't remember believing in Santa, though I sort of remember believing in the tooth fairy when I was around 5. I think for me it was more of a WANT to believe than actually believing in the fun stuff.
But pretending is fun too and I love to encourage my children and their beliefs in Santa and anything else they want to be real.
I like to pretend as a child to,. I still pretend with my kids. I encourage their imagination.

Santa Claus, Easter Bunny,Unicorns, Mermaids,Pegasus,I still want to believe...there is way to much reality for our children today...they grow up way too fast...a little fantasy is good for the soul!
I was bummed when I learned unicorns were real. But billy goats could be born with one horn instead of two.

I always thought I must have been a bad child because Mrs Butterworth would never talk to me.
I remember those commericals. I wanted her to talk to me to. She had a more calming voice than the adults in my household at the time.

I used to be scared of George "the animal" Steele who ate the turnbuckles in the wrestling ring. My dad told me it was make believe but I didn't believe it.
I remember George "the animal" steele. He scared me because of how hairy he was.

I remember the 101 Dalmations cartoon when it first came out. And at the time I wondered why God didn't just make people spotted so there wouldn't be the race riots that were going on!
