We have been very busy for the past month! We're adding a room to our house. What began as a plan to build a screened porch has morphed into a year round sun room. Welcome to our home, but please excuse our dust!
Let's begin with a BEFORE photo:

Framing the new room:

Covering the frame work:

We've got windows and shingles:

Home wrap will protect the house, keeping it warm and cozy.

This addition makes a big change in the look of the house.

We bought this antique wicker sofa from Craigslist. It matches a pair of 1920 wicker chairs that have been handed down through my family. I love this room already. It's bright and breezy.
We'll do this indoor finishing when the cold weather comes. First, we'll need to get the siding and trim on the exterior.
I will keep you posted on new developments. Due to the current economic problems and a very squeaky budget, all work is being done by my husband, a couple of neighbors and me.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check up on us as we progress in our remodeling.

The sofa was $500 and my husband thought it was too expensive, but conceded that since the matching chairs came to us free, it was a good deal. We later saw a very similar antique sofa priced at $1,500. Now he brags about our great bargain!
Having lived in a city until two years ago, I'm finding nature fascinating.
I would love to add on like that. How long did it take? Any sage advice for people who are adding on?
LOVE the view! You live in Heaven.
We've found that most jobs take twice as long and cost more than the original plan. When setting up a budget, overestimate everything. We've done additions and remodels before and the time and money always run over expectations.
Our project will take longer than it would for contractors, but doing the work ourselves reduces the costs significantly. The finished product is very satisfying.
If I do it again I'll need to win the power ball first and rent a place to live till all the work is completed.
However, I have a nice deck and have thought about turning it into a three season porch, but I like the view to the sky and probably wont.
I am one of those people who attract swarms of blood hungry mosquitoes, so I like being inside screens.
Te he!
Note: I have moved from my three bedroom home to a two bedroom, two bath apartment.
The apartment is so lovely!!
what a gorgeous setting you have on the lake... enjoy...
