Tonight was the series premiere of The Vampire Diaries. The verdict? Thumbs up.
Elena Gilbert, the main character of the show, is steadily dealing with the death of her parents. Her brother Jeremy seems to be taking it even harder and it getting high at school. After confronting her brother in the boys' bathroom about his drug use, she runs into the school hottie, Stefan Salvatore. He's a cleaner looking version of Robert Pattinson, but doesn't quite have the same sex appeal. Did I mention he looks like he's about ten years out of high school?? But then he is a century-old vampire, so I guess he's aged well.
There's lots of chemistry between Elena and Stefan, but it won't be as easy of a love story as it was for Bella and Edward. Though Stefan has self-control around humans - he avoids temptation when Elena shows him her bleeding leg - his conniving evil brother Damon loves to kill.
The show includes drugs, sex (or at least some tension), and lots of rock n' roll. The soundtrack of modern rock is a good addition to the show.
Stefan's character is a little boring, but it's nice to finally watch a school in a high school settings where the students aren't all Beverly Hills trust fund babies. (The show takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia.)

This episode wasn't as exciting as one might expect it to be, but I feel that there is a much bigger story building up.
[ducking and running!]
