I am having major issues with brayden eating at his school. Today they had a hot dog in bun, with apples and chips, and juice. I know for a fact that he loves all these.
Well he came off the bus today and told me he was hungry. I asked him why. He told me he did not eat because there was no ketchup for the hot dog. I am not sure what to make of that. I know most schools have ketchup. I remember ketchup being in my schoool. Now it is possible they don't have ketchup there because they are pre k, but I have no clue.
I am wondering if I should pack him a lunch. The only thing it could be is that is just too early for him to eat at that time. They feed them lunch at 10:45 am, so I am wondering if that comes in to play.
The last two days I have been feeding him lunch at home when he gets off the bus. I decided today taht I was not going to do that. I did not let him starve, but I am clueless what to do. I am worried if I keep feeding him when he gets home, then he won't ever eat lunch.
Also the rule in my house is you eat what is put in front of you. I was a very picky eater growing up, and my parents got to the point they would let me eat what ever I wanted. I don't expect the plate to be clean, but I at least expect them to try it.
I have sent a note to his teacher to ask what to do. If she says to pack him a lunch I will.
Has anyone out there gone through this? if so what did you do? I am about to give up and just cave. I don't want the poor kid to go hungry but I don't want him coming home thinking he can eat here either...

My daughter is a really good eater so far, so she just eats whatever they have. I may come into this issue when my son gets into kindergarten though. He's kind of picky.
My grandson who is picky learned to eat what was offered, because he got hungry.
BTW My little brother wouldn't use the bathrooms at school when he first started. I remember his dancing all the way home. Maybe he just like to eat at home.
I'd say give him lunch or a snack after school. If he gets hungry enough he will eat in school. Kids won't starve themselves that's for sure. I'd also take my cues from his teacher.
I'm sure all school all over are different, but we gave ketchup to the Headstart kids...no mustard though.
there could be so many reasons. I also would ask him did you ask for ketsup and see what he says. I would also ask him if he is hungry when lunch is being served at school if not you may end up having to send a sack snack for him and maybe feed him lunch at home, I also agree with the others that have said giv it some time he will eventually be able to train himself to eat at that time. So you could keep giving him the breakfast bar and the small snack at home and eventually he might get in the habit to eat at school. I also agree with not making him eat when he is not hungry too cause thats how most people learn to over eat. every child is different and your the only one that knows your child well enough to know if any of the things suggested by any of us will work or not. go with your gut your mom you know best. He will be fine I am sure you will handle it just fine.
Years of seeing how much of their lunches kids in elementary school throw away has shown me that few of the kids eat even most of their lunch.
there is probably ketchup in little packets. he may not be able to open it. depending on the number of kids eating at that time; he may not want or have someone he can ask to open the ketchup.
my husband is so picky, so i'm really hoping my kids aren't. but who knows?
i love your idea about making them at least try something.
