FAIRFIELD – A St. Xavier High School junior is reported in a coma Wednesday after being struck by a car Tuesday evening in Fairfield.
Kevin Le, 16, of Liberty Township “sustained severe injuries, including injuries to his head, limbs and vital organs,” according to an e-mail sent to St. Xavier parents Wednesday by St. Xavier Principal David Mueller.
Le, a member of the X Men chorus, was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital for treatment. He condition is unknown; University Hospital does not release the condition of juvenile patients.
“I have some sad news and a request for your prayers,” Mueller wrote.
An all-school prayer was held for Le about 2:30 p.m. and again after school Wednesday, said school spokesman Mark Motz.
“He was just down in our office (Tuesday), signing up to be a student sports information director for the wrestling team,” Motz said. The program allows students to cover a sports team and write stories for the St. Xavier Web site, Motz said.
Le is involved in the chorus, as well as the Something Blue vocal ensemble, an audition-only group that is limited to about 20 members. He attended the Festival Disney Competition with the St. X vocal groups last year.
Police say they are still investigating whether Le was in a crosswalk when he walked across Dixie Highway in Fairfield, near Boymel Drive, about 6 p.m. and took a “pretty direct hit” by a 1994 Honda driven by Portia Hudson, 58, of Hamilton, said Fairfield Police Lt. Ken Gerold.
There were several witnesses to the crash, Gerold said. No charges have been filed, police said.
Anyone who was a witness to the crash is asked to call Fairfield Police Officer Amy Mays.
Le has a younger brother, who is a sophomore at St. X and an older brother, Bryan, who graduated this spring.
The school annually holds a special Mass to bless the beginning of the school year, Motz said. That Mass will be held Friday. It will be attended by priests from all over the city.
“Kevin will be immensely lifted up in prayer for that Mass,” Motz said.
