My red spider lilies have finally shown their beautiful selves in my flower beds. This happens every September and they are always a wonderful surprise because they seem to arrive overnight. Red spider lilies are sometimes called naked ladies because there is no foliage on their stems. I have them planted in masses throughout my yard and they are stunningly beautiful. They don’t bloom long and are a great addition to ground cover type beds. The flowers will emerge in the midst of all the green and stay for only a few days but the show is worth the time it takes to plant them. My little Naked Ladies are many years old and have multiplied over the years into almost a solid sea of red in one of my green ground cover beds. I also have them sprinkled throughout some of the border beds and their arrival is a welcome site in my poor heat fried flower beds. Oh how I wish they could bloom all year long.
Aren’t they pretty?
