On Wednesday, September 2nd, at 6PM the Riverhead Republican Party held the grand opening of its headquarters for the 2009 campaign season. The location of this headquarters and the building where it is being located was the perfect example of the problems that the town has been facing under the many years of a lack of leadership by Democratic Town Supervisor Phil Cardinale. Just a few blocks from the Atlantis aquarium on the eastern side of the historical center of the town, the site was the location of a dinosaur museum. Unfortunately, like most of the old skeleton of buildings that line East and West Main Street, even a museum of dead bones could not keep itself financially alive.

Surrounded by paintings on the walls of a Jurassic landscape, the candidates for the local elections in 2009 came and greeted those who came with food and drink. Sandwiches, hors d'oeuvres, chicken fingers, as well as cake and dessert, along with wine, beer and soda, provided a center for people to come and talk about the upcoming election. Buttons, lawn signs, brochures and bumper stickers were also available. Town Supervisor Candidate Sean Walter spoke about the walking he and the other candidates have been doing throughout the community and the positive reaction they have been getting from those who are tired of all the many years where inaction and corruption seems to be the norm in the town; where millions are spent on places that never open; where millions are lost on inept mismanagement of town resources; where the roads, which are normally in a horrid state of repair and where snow removal is practically a farce are only “fixed” in the summer of the election year of the highway superintendent.

Yes indeed, if it wasn’t for the general low level of the ambient lighting, it made for a great place for taking photos!

I tend to lean towards libertarian, so I know what it's like to be the minority. That is what is great about this country of ours, you can be in the minority and still have and share your opinions. I don't have to agree, but as the quote says "I will fight for your right to say it."
