Google e-Books
More and more books are joining the move to the internet. An e-book (short for electronic book, also written eBook or ebook) is an e-text that forms the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book, sometimes protected with a digital rights management system. E-books are usually read on personal computers or smart phones, or on dedicated hardware devices known as e-book readers or e-book devices. Many mobile phones can also be used to read e-books. They can also be read on your personal computer.
For example, you'll find plenty of e-books at Amazon's Kindle store. There's also a store for Sony's Reader.
You may have heard and been to the Gutenberg Project site. But you may not know about the online Google Books. For years, Google has been digitizing books for its site.
You'll find many books that are still under copyright. You can get a free preview of many of these. There's also information on purchasing a copy.
Lots of the Google e-books are in the public domain. You can find over one million public domain titles at this website. Books in the public domain are no longer under copyright. That means you don't need to pay to read the full works. You can download the public domain titles for free.
Google ebooks are either in PDF or EPUB format.
An e-book reader, sometimes also called an e-book device, is a device used to display e-books. It may be a device specifically designed for that purpose, or one intended for other purposes as well. The main advantages of these devices are portability, readability of their screens in bright sunlight, and long battery life. Any Personal Data Assistant (PDA) capable of displaying text on a screen is also capable of being an e-book reader, but without the advantages of an electronic ink display.

The cost of new books is much cheaper for downloaded books.
I very much like reading from a Kindle and many of its features, but I don't like having to charge it. Also, the images aren't very good.
