Well, I finally finished writing the novel! Sort of. Ok, I'll explain. Last night I wrote the last 10k words, bringing my total word count to 45k, which will be expanded in re-writes because I know I skipped some things and left some important facts out.
Now for the bad news. My hard drive crashed two days ago and I had backed up the WRONG file. So SHIFTERS crashed with it and I lost the first 35k words of the novel. You can imagine how upset I was about that (and how paranoid I'll be and make sure to back up the RIGHT files from now on).
Good news is that my birthday's coming up and I was able to get family to donate some money for my birthday so that I can gather the $130 I need for Dell to restore the data on my new hard drive (which is a completely different story and I'm mad that I have to pay at all because the warranty only covers hardware, so restoring the data doesn't count even though it was caused by a hardware malfunction).
So, as of now I have a nearly complete rough draft. I'm not sure exactly how long it will take for me to get the information restored on my computer, but as soon as I do I'm burning everything onto cds, for sure! And emailing things, too. xD
Oh, even more exciting, when I hit 30k one of my friends was proud of me (since she has a hard time getting more than 5k) so she made me two avatars and one wallpaper for my new novel! I'm not going to post them in the article because they blur when they get enlarged, but if you're curious you can see them below. Just so you know, the second is animated, but it doesn't show up as animated on Gather, obviously. :) It's the same quote as the first one, though, since that's my tagline.

Also, Jennifer N. knows the ending of this (and she's one of the only ones besides myself) and she says that she thinks there's more to Zara and Ansel's story. Right now I'm completely clueless as to where it would lead, but maybe another dream could send me in the right direction? ;)

Good luck on getting yours done! I wanted to finish this one (first and second drafts) by NaNo so I could let it simmer on a back burner before running a third draft of it.
Besides, I doubt anyone would actually even consider publishing it, but -shrug-.
And ug, computer crashes are so frustrating! Hope it can all get restored quickly.
I think part of the problem was that it was outsourced to India....and they had a hard time understanding what I was trying to tell them and kept repeating the same thing over and over because they didn't understand. I even talked to a manager and he wasn't any better. -_-;
