"The government bailout of failing businesses will cost the taxpayers trillions of dollars."
"General Motors is a failed company. Bailing it out is a waste of taxpayer dollars, since it will ultimately fail anyway."
"The ‘Obama health care plan’ will create death panels and government committees that decide what treatments doctors can perform."
These are only some of the zombie rumors, half truths and outright lies that the Republican Party’s minions have released to roam the political discourse of the nation. Hovering over these is the Grand Zombie Lie – that if we just slash taxes on the rich, as George Bush did in 2001, the economy will soar.
How in the name of anything true can anyone who thinks beyond the end of his nose still believe that stupidity, after the demonstration of its abject failure that we’ve had over the past eight years? Yet Republican leaders and crowds of the faithful still repeat it in the face of the economic disaster culminating in the near collapse at the end of Bush’s second term?
"Cut taxes. Cut taxes. Cut taxes."
The "conservative" undead march in step, arms outstretched, unblinking eyes straight ahead, chanting the mantra.
Meanwhile GM has begun rehiring some of those laid off, AIG and several big banks have announced they will pay back the bailout money early and with interest. The total cost of avoiding global economic collapse shows signs of being far less than original estimates.
Insurance company bureaucrats still decide what treatments doctors can perform by routinely denying claims for expensive procedures that they deem experimental. They force patients into "networks" of doctors and hospitals and when they get sick, drop anyone who has misspelled a word on their original application.
And Republicans have successfully diverted America’s attention to absurd imagined threats of government takeover of health care. And Democratic "leaders" sit seemingly flummoxed by the zombies.

Perhaps you should go to one of my last posts to see the reality - in dollars and sense - and financial state of our govt. It's not about the Reps or the Dems - it's so much more...
Dollars and sense or cents?
OK. I'll read it. Please read mine.
Flummoxed? Maybe. But to me it looks more like 'caught out.'
Perhaps something simpler like "how much of the money that pays for the insurance companies improves or provides health care in the U.S.?"
Now, there's a lot of crap going around about "Obama's Nazi policies". What you wrote in your post is VERY close to the actual Nazi policies.
And I beg your pardon but it IS very much about "Reps and the Dems". Republicans are spreading vile lies.
"Eliminate all subsidies to the sick or unhealthy. Subsidies create more of whatever is being subsidized. Subsidies for the ill and diseased breed illness and disease, and promote carelessness, indigence, and dependency. If we eliminate them, we would strengthen the will to live healthy lives and to work for a living. In the first instance, that means abolishing Medicare and Medicaid."
Basically, this say..."F**K the poor and unhealthy. Let 'em starve and die on the streets of our cities. They are sick because they are inferior citizens. We need to get rid of 'em."
That is the same kind of thinking that Hitler and his Nazi goons used to craft their "final solution" to the problem of those "subhuman" Jews. Oooh, I hope that people like Linda never gain any power in this nation. It will be time for kind, humane and thinking people to leave this cruel and inhumane nation...and our founders will cry out from their graves that THIS is not what they envisioned when they established a nation based on humanitarian ideals.
It would be a truly sad time for America.
Fortunately, I think people like Linda are in a small fanatical minority. I think our nation can overcome such people. I surely hope so.
From an article on infowars.com that sought to uncover the links between US Intelligence agencies and America's dominant media assets:
The Dutch newspaper Trouw and France’s Intelligence Newsletter reported in 2000 that several officers from the US Army’s 4th Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Group at Ft. Bragg worked in the news division at CNN’s Atlanta headquarters, starting in the final days of the Kosovo War.

I don't think we can necessarily draw the conclusion that infowars.com
implies; namely, that having Intelligence officers in the CNN offices
proves the Big Brother plan is in high gear. We can't let the Cheney/
Bush experience make us think DOD is totally evil. Still, it would be
very interesting to follow this story and learn just what these officers
were doing at CNN. From DOD point of view, there might be a good
reason they are in those positions. It's not like its a secret, and we
all know there are some pretty screwy people in the media -- on
both sides of the spectrum. It would take a good investigative
reporter to ferret out what CNN (and others) News is really like.
If the on-screen talent in the video, that blonde guy with a
moustache, is any example, I'd say wheedling the truth out of
the CNN employees wouldn't be easy.
In the comment below, Valerie talks of a civil war on the mental level,
and, indeed, the infowars.com motto is "because there is a war on for
your mind."
Read Gather member Debbie G's post, Think, People, Think, especially the last two paragraphs. She refers to one of these Zombie lies. Debbie was a nurse for 24 years, but because of a medical condition has not been able to work for two years. She has no medical insurance.
This is the problem, Gary. Anyone who thinks beyond the end of his nose can't believe that stupidity.
I agree with Verie that there is a need for ethics classes, as well as classes in logic. But something tells me that the people who need those classes are more apt to respond to libel suits.
CNN only knocks one side? You didn't hear Dick Gregory's interview with Orrin Hatch & Charles Shumer, did you? Hatch was allowed to go on and on while Shumer was told he'd get the chance to respond later. Guess what? He never did get the chance.
You clearly haven't listened to CNN much.
Radio and TV run by the government? Is this another conspiracy Fox News has uncovered? You mean we won't be able to get the truth from Hannity, Limbaugh et al?
Annmarie, open your mind!
Rothbard blamed much of what he disliked on meddling women. In the mid-1800s, a "legion of Yankee women" who were "not fettered by the responsibilities" of household work "imposed" voting rights for women on the nation. Later, Jewish women, after raising funds from "top Jewish financiers", agitated for child labor laws, Rothbard adds with evident disgust. The "dominant tradition" of all these activist women, he suggests, is lesbianism.[42]
This is a group that bears keeping an eye on.
It's a tough strategy to combat without sinking to their level. It's time for Obama to show leadership from the bully pulpit & for the Dem Congressional leadership to show some courage. "If not now, when? If not us, who?" There won't be a better time than now for decades to enact meaningful health care legislation.
