Ophelia.....August Art - Any Medium Challenge

I'm not qualified as an art critic, Karen. I do like the colors and composition. You'll have to await comments from the artists for critique of the artwork.

Thank you Dawn. it has been a while since I made any art. My big old cat kept jumping on top of my collage but it made it through.

Ophelia, wistful flame
like mermaid bound and lame
allowing love to name
her life's desire
a mortal man's mad rain
to quell her fire
damp, desolate, insane
upon his pyre

Unique piece, lovely colors. Please tell me what medium you worked in.

I used colored paper and white velum and tore strips so that the edges were exposed at different widths. It left a soft muted color on the outside and the brighter darker color in the center. I particularly liked the velum edge that turned brilliant white when tore. I pulled out my cloth drawer then I cut some scraps of soft fabric and used a swatch of sheer fabric to surround it. My cat kept jumping on the creation and I would have to place them again. We did that little dance for a while and then I shook my finger at him. When I felt satisfied with the basic composition, I took a digital photo of it and with my photo editing art program I put a pencil sketch filter on it and also played a bit with some enhancing so that I could create Ophelia in the composition. She just came naturally right where she was. Well...that's how it happened except in the middle of that, I had to go out and check on the sheep. Thanks David for visiting.

the art is beautiful. what medium did you use?

Hi d.d. I tore strips of colored paper and arranged them in a design then I cut some scraps of shear fabric and tossed them on, finally I put a gold shear around it and took a photo. I used my photo editing program and put a pencil sketch filter on it. Lastly, I embellished the center to bring out Ophelia. TaDa... it was fun.

When Chana shared the challenge I had a visual image and tried to do some photo paint on my computer but it was not what I could see inside. Once I started tearing paper, I could see it. Yes, Chana had a good challenge.
