Ybor City is a cool place.
A party town, with a unique history dating back to
1886 when Cuban and European Immigrants
settled in what is now old downtown Tampa, FL
Located near the Tampa harbor, convenient for
shipping their famous hand rolled cigars.
Ybor made a perfect backdrop for a photo study in
black-white and sepia for an amateur
photographer like me.
Mechanical winches look so 1800s when portrayed in black and white.

Not every photograph is suited for black and white and because I am drawn to vivid colors, I rarely like the results in b/w. Alas .........
Sepia seemed appropriate here ....
I can still feel the sunshine on his face.

Somewhere I heard that the true measure of a good photograph is when your photo still looks good in black and white. I remember the fine, crisp and stark black and white pictures from my youth; most of today's digital b/w look nothing like it.
I like for my black and whites to be more shall we say "dramatic" in expression.
Bridged walkway and streetcar stop.

Trolley near Centro Ybor

Muvico theater and Tampa Brewing Co.

Contemporary city vibe ...

Different angle, a few steps away
historic atmosphere ...

Sweet shot!
Since Ybor's history is steeped in the cigar industry and indeed was built on it, I was tickled pink to capture this moment in time.
A perfect portrait
of how sweet life can be.
Note the style of the shirt, the panama hat and the shoes!
At the outdoor cafe
in front of the
Corona Cigar store in Ybor City.

It made me ponder life - the two men - remember the sepia photo above - are of approximately the same age .....

Ybor sure has a way of re-inventing itself every so often:)
Thank you!
I'll leave the party side of Ybor for someone else:)
