Moms Rising, a group that focuses on making life healthier and family supportive in the United States, sent out an email this morning concerning Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. (Oh! Will the controversy over this comfort food and its manufacturer ever end?) It seems that the company has two different standards for creating the cheesiest pasta product - one for the US and one for Europe, Australia, and any other country that is actually concerned about what goes into processed foods.
In the US, you will find growth hormones, artificial colors and chemical sweeteners in the product. There is some evidence that shows these ingredients aren't good for children to consume. In 2008, Kraft removed these things from the products they sell overseas. Makes one wonder exactly why those additives were in there to begin with. If they can be removed and the product is still cost effective, what's the sense of adding them in the first place, especially when more and more consumers are becoming aware of the link between good foods and good health?
Why were these ingredients removed from the European product?
Because the company was asked to remove them! European consumers don't want chemical laden macaroni and cheese. Do you?
If you would like to let Kraft know that you want a healthier food supply, Moms Rising has made it easy. Just click this link and add your voice to those who are asking Kraft to clean up their products in the United States. It's as easy as sending a gooey ping of cheese to someone.

I went I signed, I spread the word!
but I will add to the petition.
It hardly seems fair that Europe and Australia can eat additive free stuff, but it's not readily available in its country of origin!
Words fail.
And thanks for the heads up.
