This is a lovely and subtle ode to dogs and binary stars. I'd think that "the gravity of apples" would be a concern for two stars orbiting each other. I understand that it's possible for one of them to leave orbit and "run away" (hence the dog theme?)

Is it so that 'The Dog Days of Summer' comes from the brilliance of Sirius in the August skies?

I wondered also if the Dog Star having little fear of the "gravity of apples" refers to Isaac Newton's concept of "light corpuscles (emission theory) and who predicted that some stars would have a gravity so strong that light would not be able to escape."

The Wiki assistance is appreciated nearly as much as your clever poem.

Yes, yes, yes Ade! Thank you for picking up on the Newton connection. We know all stars carry the seeds of their own destruction, but it must be concerning to sober minded binary stars that one must eventually devour the other. And indeed the "Dog days of summer" does come from superstitions surrounding Sirius. I thank you most kindly for taking the time to parse this poem. -And I am full of envy for your beautiful northern skies :-)
