It's Easy To Demand Something When Someone Else Is Paying For It!

August 22, 2009 06:19 AM EDT (Updated: August 22, 2009 09:16 AM EDT)
views: 362 | rating: 9.5/10 (23 votes) | comments: 219

Know what I notice everyday on the news these days? Someone out there is demanding something, some interest group or the other is demanding something, and most of the time that “something” is an item or service that someone else is expected to pay for.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I always looked at it like my rights ended where the other person’s pocketbook begins. I owe myself, and if I need more than I can provide for personally then I need to be gracious, thankful, and humble if someone decides to give it to me. If they don’t, they didn’t owe it to me in the first place. And, based on everything I’m seeing and reading these days, I guess I’ve been lookin’ at it bass-ackwards!

Y’all know exactly what I mean. Every day I see people on TV demanding that we owe them “free” healthcare. Or demanding that we owe them mortgages on homes even though they can’t afford them. Or that we owe them educations, loans, new cars, and more. The list of “owes”, if anything, seems to be growing and growing and then growing some more. “Rights” are growing faster these days than a rabbit’s penis hopped up on Viagra.

What I’ve learned throughout all this is that I’ve had my head screwed on wrongly about this subject. And in that spirit I think I need to start thinking about what I need, what I want, and maybe come up with a list of what I think everyone else owes me. Hey, if I can actually get it, then the system is truly working, and I’ll extol its virtues in article after article for months to come. So America, here’s what I want you to pay for, no hell, here’s what I expect you to pay for and why:

1. Free Dairy Queen Blizzards anytime I want them.

Don’t I have an inalienable right to be happy? And talk about a cheap way of providing said happiness! A large Blizzard only costs around five bucks, and if I could enjoy one a week I’d be very, very happy! Fifty-two weeks times five bucks ends up being only two hundred sixty bucks, so talk about a cheap way of providing me with happiness! Taxpayers ought to be more than glad to ante up!

2. A DVD collection of every Kay Parker adult movie ever made.

Kay Parker, in my opinion, was the hottest adult movie actress of all-time. She hails from Britain, had some training as an actress, and was as pretty and as hot as any woman ever. One of her movies, “Taboo,” is either the top or close to the top of the list as being the most rented/purchased adult movie of all-time.

How does me owning all of Kay’s DVDs help out taxpayers? Well, the answer to that is simple. Most of this talk from our leaders as to why they need to spend so much of our tax money comes from their need to provide the economy with a stimulus. Hell, that’s exactly what these DVDs are for me, a stimulus! In fact, Kay may be one of the best stimulus inducers I’ve ever encountered over the course of my life! So, if the government wants to stimulate things with our tax dollars, then there can be no better “investment” than this – I promise I’ll be stimulated to the point of tentedness if I get these DVDs!

3. Quarterly trips to Vegas, with extra money for gambling and “incidentals.”

More wisely invested stimulus dollars - I promise that every tax dollar I get from the government assigned to be spent in Vegas will be spent! Every last cent of it! And think about it, those dollars will stimulate the casinos, the shows, the restaurants, the ladies of the even……uh, no need to say more, y’all get the picture!

4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket season football tickets.

If people can get thousands of dollars for worthless “clunkers” (cars), then I can see no reason not to ask the feds for this. And, if y’all give me enough time then I can probably come up with some logical argument as to why getting these tickets makes sense, in fact, they’ll probably make a lot more sense than some of the other items our tax money is getting tossed away on!

5. Smoochies from the following ladies – Selene, Mandy, Christina, Bethie, Annie, Kathryn, Anita, Vivian, Esther, Tammy, Ariel, Sensational Sadie, Melissa, Arlene – anytime I want them.

Talk about a pure as a baby’s ass stimulus! It might not help the economy at all for these ladies to give me lots of smoochies, but it damn sure would help me, and I’m certainly not the only person who’s ever held their hand out for government assistance with that thought in mind, now am I? Gimme, gimme, gimme, GIMMMMMEEEEEEEE!

I’m feeling better now that I’ve said all this, I’m feeling much more aligned with the times and with the prevailing attitude these days. I’m convinced now that I’m owed something for simply drawing breath, and if I get any of the five things listed above I’ll be more than happy and pleased with our elected leaders. In fact, I’ll even go so far to say that I’ll vote them all back in again if they’ll go along with me on this, as in the future I’d love to have a new computer, Hawaiian cruise tickets, skydiving lessons, Atomic Fireballs……………………………..

Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 6:38am EDT
It's kinda like when you wail for handouts that you've already given up, that you're willing to let the gov't have any kinda control over you they want in exchange for some "free shit." I just can't understand it, I'm just like you in that regard, I'd shovel crap and earn my own way before I'd lay back and let the gov't "care" for me. When I see people who feel that way I begin thinking Darwin was right.......

You are something special, darlin'!

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:14am EDT
I don't know anyone wailing for hand outs such as cars and mortgages. I agree there are some people who take advantage of the system but in the grand scheme of those out there that need help that percentage is small and it is unfortunate that this small percentage gives the rest a bad name. We have all been there and as time goes and the recession slowly bounds back there will be a lot more.

I would like my husband to get a job with benefits. We've been paying over $1200 a month for over 2 years for our medical since he was laid off from IBM. I can't afford not to have insurance as I am insulin diabetic. Who has $1200 a month? His work is over in a few weeks and I don't see us affording that out of unemployment, I doubt he will get that much...

I think I would agree with you if we weren't in the spot we are in. I can't imagine what my medications are going to cost without insurance...in addition to the insulin I am on 9 different medications...and I dropped 2 of them already because of money. arrgh
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 6:48am EDT
Darlin', I don't advocate not helping people who truly need it. I think this is more about how people's heads are screwed on about it than anything else. Sounds like y'all have earned your way and have just hit a bad time, that happens to lots of us, it's happened to me before.

Smoochies, and best of luck to y'all,

E3
Nora J A. Aug 22, 2009, 7:32am EDT
The government thought they did us a big favor with their "portability, Cobra", but those who lose their jobs can't afford the ridiculous premiums that Cobra demands. So the coverage is lost by default of the cost.

We do need consumer protection and some sort of cushion to help pay the Cobra benefits. Not a total giveaway, but a subsidy. There must be some way to "clean up" our current system without torpedoing the whole process.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 7:35am EDT
Nora, I never really saw the value of COBRA - you can keep your former coverage if you pay all the costs plus a 2% admin fee. I was able, a coupla times between jobs to find private insurance that would cover me adequately for far less cost than COBRA coverage would have been.

I guess I just get queasy when I hear the gov't say they're going to fix something, God forbid......

Great post!

I wholeheartedly agree with you. No one owes me anything. I've been on my own since I was 17 years old, much of the time working at least two jobs. I've pretty much had what I wanted, re clothes shopping in NYC, traveled extensively, etc...and enjoyed is more because I paid for it myself. That's how I was raised.

I've shoveled lots of crap in my time, but that was for free ~ they were my horses.

And, I'd give you the smoochies for free ~ mmmuuuaaahhh ~ I'm not into it, but I'll throw in a swat if that's what you really want.

Bethie ~ pleased to be on your smoochie list
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 7:37am EDT
Bethie, I think the whole point is that work keeps you free, dependency keeps you down. And why anyone would choose to be dependent is beyond me, whores have a better value system, at least they offer something......

I have no problem helping those truly in need, 'truly' being the operative word. Most of us have been there before. That is what the system is for, not for people who choose it as their career. Practically every day, I read in the newspaper about people being charged with welfare fraud.

There's this girl who is in a work program for us, gets paid by the county. She is single, 21, has 3 children, 2 two year olds (not twins, they are 10 months, 4 days apart) and a one year old. I think she's pregnant again. For heaven's sake, if you can't take care of the ones I have, stop being a human Pez dispenser!
Elizabeth O. Aug 22, 2009, 7:54am EDT
oops...take care of the ones 'you' have...need more coffee.

Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:11am EDT
Look, I don't see what's wrong with saying, okay, if you can't take care of your children and expect taxpayers to do it, then you must agree to be fixed so that you place no more burden on them. Our gov't encourages people to breed like rabbits.

"In cases like this, I believe in forced sterilization...

This comment may open up a new can of worms. If it does, sorry."

How about tax cuts for voluntary sterilizations? It will have a HUGE ROI (return on investment). A big source of our economic problems is overpopulations. The job market has to keep up with the increasing numbers of those entering the workforce, which is not doing at present. Decrease in population = decrease in stress on the economy, as the result of less people in need, or lack thereof for that matter.

I'd actually say force sterilizations PERIOD, but no need to be worse than China (at least in some respects *lol*).
Joyce ("Site Cheshire Kitteh") L. Aug 22, 2009, 10:56pm EDT
There's the answer for all these abortion complaints too. Part of the abortion procedure is an irreversible sterilization. How's that? Less pregnancies, I'll bet, less abortions, too!
Angela K .. Aug 29, 2009, 8:33pm EDT
I think since there are mandatory drug testing for some work places AND that keeps some people from working..cuz they have to give up their weed....it should be mandatory for you not to be able to receive welfare unless you can pass a drug test.
Why should we work to let people stay stoned and be able to buy drugs.
I do not agree with manditory drug testing for work...BUT would agree to it to be a stipulation to being able to collect money.

Well people are not demanding free health care, they are demanding health care.....
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:17am EDT
Darlin' lady, with all due respect, I think the whole "government option" deal implies reduced cost or low cost health coverage. And however you stack it, the taxpayer ends up getting stuck with the bill.

I still think you're the smoochiest, though!

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:19am EDT
The tax payers and everyone is getting stuck with the bill as it is. This will give it structure. As a country we pay some of the lowest taxes of all the societies and that is all people want to complain about. Seriously think about that. We as a society have a responsibility and complaining about taxes is taking away from that responsibility.
Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:19am EDT
you are really asking for it!!!
Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:21am EDT
Boston Globe this morning: Massachusetts Health Care premiums the highest in the country. We don't want free health care we just want health care to take care of us. We all pay through the nose. I was in Canada for 9 years now THAT IS HEALTH CARE. Universal health care for all through taxation and I am all for it , GA boy. I will be in GA in Sept. but not Hotlanta. SVNHA.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:22am EDT
I agree there's some common sense things that can be done to reduce costs in the system. A full scale goverment take over of the medical industry in this nation would be a disaster, though.

Jennifer, I see over 50% of my paycheck going out to various government municipalities every two weeks. I have every right to complain, who's worrying about helping me?

Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:35am EDT
It is a sham, and Romney only brokered the deal so the DEMs and the GOP would vote him in as PREZ...oops that didn't work.

It was seen from the beggining by the DEMS as something that would be unworkable.

More and more news daily about how it does NOT work.

Costs were never consdiered into the equation, problem one.

Problem two, it was never figured out if the state could actually afford it.

Families that make less than 300 percent of the poverty line (with children under age 19 only) can get commonwealth care for about 100 a month per adult. not that bad.

once the children are 19 - even thought the parent is paying for college, ooops. that becomes a family of two.

families that make 300 or 301 percent of the poverty line - no dice. have to pay about 12 grand a year for coverage. oops they cannot afford it.

massachusetts has one of the highest cost of living. Your cost of living would triple, based on the rental values we saw in SVNHA.
Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:36am EDT
So would you be able to pay 12 to 20 K a year for family coverage and pay 3 times what you pay now for your home, rental or mortgage?

Didn't think so.

I take it you are financially well taken care of, but unless you are filthy rich, well...it doesn't work.

Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:39am EDT
So, to pay 2K a month for housing and 1K a month for each adult for health care, plus 300 a month or 200 a month for utilities, plus car insurance - 1,000 per adult, plus gas, oh groceries...

housing: 2K, 2K healthcare two adults, 200 month gas for SUV, 300 month utilities...500 month groceries...that is 5 K a month right there.

So 60K base expenses, plus auto insurance.

Movies? Tuition? Clothing? Books? Computer?

oh sorry. No money. You're out.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:40am EDT
I'm not rich at all, I just put aside some money religiously and I know who to talk to buy the things I need. There are always deals, and I found I didn't have to spend 12 to 20 k for coverage. We went out on the open market, shopped plans, wheeled and dealed a bit, and got something workable.

Does this mean no more chocolate covered strawberries?

E3
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:42am EDT
My housing costs alone are less than half that, you must live in a rich neighborhood, darlin'! Don't drive an SUV either, a small Toyota truck suits me just fine.

I still maintain it's all about the choices....

On the health care reform note I personally am not demanding free health care and although I do belive that those who can't afford it should have some kind of assistance because in the long run when they are no longer using the ER as their own personal doctor's office it helps all of us in the long run. I know a lot of people feel that tax payers will be paying for it from now until forever. Who is to say though that these people who can't afford healthcare aren't actual tax payers themselves some of them. I agree that has to be a sense of responsibility before entitlement and we as a collective society have to be responsible in speaking up and saying we aren't going to go without healthcare just because of the all mightly dollar.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:18am EDT
Jennifer, I think more than one of those 45 million uninsured are there because they want to be - why should we help them at all? For someone truly needy or having bad times I have no issue. And I still struggle with universal health care coverage being a "right." Everywhere they've tried it it's been a disaster.

Great comment!

E3
Kathryn E. Aug 22, 2009, 8:22am EDT
One day you will be one of those uninsured against your will and you will need health care and the system will say, sorry, no operation for you. If you die, well, that is the American Way. Truly, it can and will happen to you. To all of us.
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:23am EDT
Ed are you serious? They want to be? Are you kidding me really? I was one of those uninsured for a very long time. I just didn't go to the doctor. I have a thyroid condition I had to leave untreated for nearly 4 years because the only work I could get for the longest time was temp jobs and I couldn't afford Cobra or whatever else that was available. But I wanted to be that way? Also are you aware that the costs of healthcare are expected to rise nearly 32% by next year alone. Sure I have a full time job and health insurance but what if my employer ups the ante on me how am I supposed to afford that? But I want that to happen right? I want to be uninsured? That is crazy! Also that is not true about it being a disaster every where else. Canada and Great Briton have had it for decades. Yes there are some who haven't liked it in it's entirety but to sit and call it disasterous isn't true on your part.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:24am EDT
Darlin', I've been uninsured. Talked to my broker and found some affordable coverage that got me by til my next job. I had stuck aside money "for a rainy day" and was able to keep coverage.

Smoochies,

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:26am EDT
Also this bill isn't asking for universal healthcare. Often I have seen our President say adamantly he does not think universal healthcare is the right direction for our country. He simply wants what we all want - regulation so we aren't being raped over the bills we get when our insurance finally does kick in. And for those that simply can't afford to pay for it themselves some kind of assistance. Why is that so much to ask?
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:26am EDT
Jennifer, they had a Canadian doctor on TV the other night talking about how their system is on the verge of disaster. Even my buddies in BTO talked many times about how shoddy it was.

I simply said some of those 45 million choose not to be covered - and they do. Some of them work with me, for example. They're young, don't want coverage. I should have to pay for them anyway? Hardly.

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:27am EDT
That isn't the case for everyone. There wasn't anything left in my budget to set aside or otherwise. Good for you that you were able to do so but that doesn't that will be the solution for everyone.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:28am EDT
Jennifer, if you go by the theory that you're responsible for yourself, you can do a lot of things.

Nice debate, I do understand your points, appreciate how well you've stated them!

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:29am EDT
Where you think you are going to pay for them outright? Yes our tax dollars will be going towards this bill and it's programs if it is passed but wouldn't that be better than paying for vacations and nice new airplanes for those in congress? The facts are and always will be that we will always have to pay taxes. Remember the old saying I don't have to do anything but die and pay taxes? Well that isn't going to change anytime soon, and I say why not have our dollars that they are going to take anyway go towards something worthwhile like helth care reform. Also as I mentioned before this bill is not for universal healthcare. It never was...
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:33am EDT
It's an endless money pit if the gov't runs it. Much like the Postal Service, Medicare, and a ton of other examples. I wouldn't mind the taxes if they came up with something sensible, but you want to bet on the odds of that happening? I don't see people lining up to buy GM stock.

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:34am EDT
Thanks Ed. I also see your point as well. I have seen these small groups of individuals who do try to take advantage of the system. Case in point - right after my divorce from my son's father I had to find a new place to live. I lived in one of those apartment complexes that bases the rent on how much you make. I worked for 9.50 an hour at the time as a Nurse's assistant. I didn't have a car and had to rely on my generous co-workers for rides to and back home. I paid 430 a month on that crappy apartment. The lady who lived next to me paid 8 a month. She had one child like I did didn't work and got food stamps and a welfare check. She said to me once that her case worker told her that she didn't need to work while her son was too young to go to school. She should just stay home with him. I couldn't believe that. My son was only 2 years old when I got divorced. I had to pay my own grandmother 50 a week just to watch him while I worked. Those are the kinds of people I can't stand and I have a feeling those are the ones you are speaking of but the unfortunate of it all is not everyone who needs the services the government provides and could provide in the future are that way.
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:35am EDT
I still think some kind of health care reform with govenrment intervention could be helpful here. It's out of control right now and something needs to be done.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:36am EDT
Jennifer, you make some good points, and I respect that. I've enjoyed the debate, darlin'!

E3
Jennifer R. Aug 22, 2009, 8:37am EDT
True dat! on some of the programs the government has instilled. No you are right not buying GM stock anytime soon. Although I think if given a chance this bill could provide a reform that might not necessarily be something that needs to be in place forever.
Joy McCormick Aug 22, 2009, 8:37am EDT
I am uninsured, not by choice, BUT I don't want any handout from the government. I live below poverty level, and according to their zillion page bill, it probably would be FREE to me, but I STILL don't want it.
After living in Oz under their "system" and watching a friend die who would most likely still be alive if she lived here, I know that what we have, although far from perfect, is MUCH BETTER.
btw, I don't use the emergency room. I have a doctor, and I make the sacrifices I need to make to pay him. I am also making monthly payments every month on my hospital bill and I buy my meds directly from the drug company. I am making it work. I don't want the government interfering.

What you are missing is that universal, single-payer health care is not a matter of people demanding free health insurance because they think you owe it to them. That illogical conundrum is merely the rhetorical hype coming out of the private health insurers who currently enjoy a captive market and don't want to lose the goose that lays the golden egg.

Universal, single-payer health care is about people deciding to act collectively to provide themselves with health insurance that is comprehensive, guaranteed and divorced from the profit motive that the insurance companies have attached to your illnesses.

Forget the fact that it ensures a healthier society by allowing everyone to see a doctor, by employing preventive medicine at the early stages of health concerns rather than expensive and invasive corrective measure when health problems become so great that intervention trumps all other (read: financial) concerns. Forget the fact that is produces a more productive society by allowing people to concentrate on their work and business and stop being distracted by untended health concerns, by costly insurance schemes, by having to include exhorbitantly expensive group health plans in employee compensation packages.

Forget all of that.

Just concentrate on the fact (the indisputable fact, the undeniable fact, the well proven fact) that the most expensive form of health insurance in the world is the American private insurance model.

Wise up, folks.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:47am EDT
Ummmm, based on what I see being offered outside of the U.S., I'll stay with the most expensive private insurance in the world. At least here I can see a doctor today if I want to.

I'm not missing it, Rory - I don't want univeral, single-payer health care. And apparently I'm not the only person who feels that way.

Best to you,

E3
Nora J A. Aug 22, 2009, 9:02am EDT
One of the problems we can expect under "universal health care",

Let's say you're 67, you start having issues with heart palpitations, you go to your doctor, but you have "aged out" under Obama's plan so you can not get a pace maker.

Your doc says, "well, they will pay for end of life counseling"..

Don't know about you, but I don't think I'd be very happy in that situation.

OK ~ say we have universal health care...what about 'quality' of said health care? There's still only so much money to go around. A friend of my parents had an HMO and had a stroke. The place he was sent was no better than a dog kennel. My dog gets better care at the vet's. He was stuck in a room and left there. He was barely even checked on. There was a beautiful, state of the art, 'private' hospital directly across the street.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 8:57am EDT
Or talk about the "public " Postal Service vs. the "private" UPS/Fedex......those nasty, old profit making entities!

E3
Elizabeth O. Aug 22, 2009, 9:03am EDT
I was in London a few years ago visiting a friend who is a physician. He took me to a famous hospital there where he was on staff and gave me a tour. I felt like I had traveled back a couple hundred years and was living something out of Charles Dickens. It was clean, I will say that. The conditions were positively archaic. I would have been scared to death to be a patient there.
Elizabeth O. Aug 22, 2009, 9:10am EDT
He got so frustrated with the universal system, not because he wasn't making a lot of money, but because of all of the constraints with trying to help people....he's now in the private sector as a renal specialist, where he can do a lot more good....he's not in it for the money, he truly wants to help people.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 9:12am EDT
And if he is in it for the money, well, I think a lot of us work and collect checks - for the money.

I embrace capitalism!

There has to be a sensible compromise between getting what we need to function and getting free trips to Vegas.

(a screwed up health care system is keeping too many people from even being able to function - all that bankruptcy and loss of productivity is really bad for the economy)
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 9:38am EDT
Peter, I agree it's screwed up, and I hope whatever they do really helps and isn't just another government run program type deal. I think we all agrees it could be better, the trick is in the details.

And I never compromise on goin' to Vegas, I wanna go right now!

You're the best,

E3
Peter Joseph Swanson Aug 22, 2009, 10:02am EDT
"and isn't just another government run program type deal"

Maybe it's only a choice of one of two things. A, Government: or B, even more money for the insurance industry.

And this article seems to miss the point anyway - being very silly about welfare. People on welfare already get health care and the debate has never been to stop welfare. It's about the middle class. The middle class work very hard and make the bulk of our American society, and they are the ones who have been seriously ripped off by the insurance industry. I would never say the middle class are demanding someone else's anything when they are doing the real work. Tax the rich.
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 10:05am EDT
Peter, if they let the insurance companies compete across state lines and put some kind of reasonable caps on malpractice awards money could be saved right there.

And actually, the point of the article was to have fun with a current topic and tie it into my own "stimulus", not get into a huge health care debate. I realize it's sensitive and that people's opinions are all over the map.

You have a good day,

I haven't watched porn in years, don't know who Kay Parker is...although I do know who Vanessa DelRio is "Inside Vanessa DelRio" is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen...I actually went to a costume party as her mother from that movie...all the guys knew who I was, go figure...but I digress.

Never been to Vegas, either...

Do I qualify for the stimulus? Where's the line? Do I need my birth certificate?

Raven, you make a good point. I can watch a porn flick and be mega engrossed for about ten minutes. After that, I hardly know it's on as I guess I become so desensitized to the subject matter. Go figure.

Re politics, I really thought I'd take something current and poke some fun at it, I think I've learned my lesson. There's a reason I've stayed away from politically-based themes, and I'm damn sure understanding why today!

Well Ed, I just read your post and I am not amused. I understand that when life is good it is difficult to see the uproar about what this Government is proposing. Actually, I found some errors in statements you made namely, “Every day I see people on TV demanding that we owe them “free” healthcare. Or demanding that we owe them mortgages on homes even though they can’t afford them. Or that we owe them educations, loans, new cars, and more. The list of “owes”, if anything, seems to be growing and growing and then growing some more. “Rights” are growing faster these days than…”

I have no clue what is on the news in Georgia but, in the National news and C-SPAN, C-SPAN2 & 3, I see Congress debating where our tax dollars will go and it is NOT working America. It is Big business which have been deemed “ Too big to fail“ The average Citizen is struggling in a recession and National unemployment kissing 10% these people are not asking for anything but a job. There are angry folk who will rhetorically shout out a demand for themselves while voicing against the “Corporate Welfare” some companies are receiving when they beg and demand help when they fly to D.C. in individual corporate jets enemas.

The glory days of inner growth has come to a halt, 4 banks closed last week and NO NEWSPAPERS which prior to the Health Care Reform Scare were suffering, praying for their next advertiser or even the sale of a news printed the previous night. Meanwhile Congress is still deciding (although they are on recess) who they will gift and give and allow to see another day in the sun.

The Health Care Reform debate in the streets and the Congress are much hubris and has stirred up an undue amount of anger and apathy against a POTUS who is working hard to fix all that has been broken (a noble cause) yet, he is not favored by the GOP and it appears that a party which is in shambles is still capable of disrupting the equilibrium of the voice of the everyday public with propaganda and decelerations of failure for the POTUS. This is the most vitriolic level of criticisms I have seen in my awareness of politics reaching back to Harry S Truman leaving the World to Eisenhower.

I am ashamed of my fellow citizens who refuse to accept a Democratic process in the Republic--there is a dearth of understanding in every issue POTUS44 introduces. There is no faith and based upon the fact that the Electoral College (gave him 365 votes McCain = 173) and the Popular vote = 69,456,897 based upon the belief in his ability to “Change things in D.C.” Now the process of “Change” has become a war between party ideals and shouting matches from the unlearned, poorly read and vindictive.

So Ed, when you hear someone --a private citizen, demanding rest assured that they are falsely demanding what Congress is all to willing to give to Big Business. I feel their pain.

Last words:I have been retired for 10 years as of last Sept. I have Medicare and my medical services are better than when I worked at 4 times what I now receive monthly. I was a medical professional, Chemistry for 25 years and a Psychologist for 15 years. I know what is broken in Health Care and I hope and pray the reform goes through before 2010.
Johnice R. Aug 22, 2009, 10:40am EDT
I realize that your intentions were pure yet as you can see this topic of Health Care Reform is a sensitive issue and there is no denying that some levity is needed yet, the facts are not funny
Ed Williams Aug 22, 2009, 10:41am EDT
Johnice, I'm sorry you didn't like it, and I'm even going to get into debating the points, I already think that's been done enough on this thread. I'll just say that you're underlining why delving into subject matter like this is a risky proposition at best.

You take care,

E3
Johnice R. Aug 22, 2009, 10:45am EDT
