Do not say, "I am a goddess." Say instead,
"I should like to be a goddess in his eyes
while they hold mine, their light enfolding
everything including the clay at my feet."
What comfort in a crown of stars?
Accept the soil between your toes
and take the hands offered,
help them part your mysteries
reveal your precious, undeniable flaws.

Thank you for the lovely comment, Jennifer. That is definitely one of the intended meanings.
What a breath of fresh air that's graced this moist and yeasty wonder.
I feel hunger brewing--- such a long way from home.
Thank you for this.
Your star is a feature in The Surreal Circus crown.
Thank you so much for the feature. I wasn't sure the poem was a fit but James assured me it would be. :)
Where has Ann been of late?
Giggle? Yes, indeed! I literally felt a sharp intake of breath driven by the need for the oxygen your poem provided, a most grateful response. Rooted m'dear.
I snort deeply, in your honor!
Gasps and snorts and giggles all around! I'm buyin'!
Great advice, I feel the same way, and like most everyone else, I resonate with the 'reveal your precious, undeniable flaws' line.... it IS humbling, AND empowering.... so many women get caught up trying to look and be like the 'goddess', that they forget it's the flaws that make us one already, and any man worth letting discover our mysteries will love that about us already.
As for Ann's comment, it has been my experience that the abuse comes when, yes, they discover you're not perfect, but moreso after they discover you're closer to it than they are.;)
I think your experience is also true. Certainly describes my last two ex-marriages.
