I doubt that there's a reader who can't relate to this at least from some points in their lives. You're becoming a poet rather than someone who writes poetry.

I hope this isn't the state of your heart. Mine has been there so many times, I hate to see others have to take this too. Sometimes it feels as if it would be easier to just crawl in a hole and fade away, but it isn't the answer! You are a special lady, and this is very poignant!! HUGS

I like the pacing and compactness of this. It isn't subtle, but it's still effectively understated because of the terrible importance of its message.

I hear you about the "end of summer" My semester started quite crazily last week.

I sneak in and out, but the hard part is to get into a poetic state of mind for the short spaces and to have enough time strung together to write anything longer. What about you? Teaching is so time consuming and so exhausting!

I am running three groups here now, but the only one that's really jumping is the poet's circle. I could use a second moderator. I will have to write and comment less when I go back to work. Bummer.

I like the spare style of this. It feels taut, emotionally wound, as if the speaker is having trouble getting the words out. The final two lines are thoughtful, and I particularly like the word "leaf"; it suggests that the risks of life in the world (metonymically linked to the tree's "leaf") are very much like those of writing ("leaf" as the page upon which the poet writes).

Thank you, James! Aman suggested that I use Take the leaf from my book in a poem, but I changed it a bit to suit my needs. You have a keen eye and ear for poetry that I appreciate.

This is a very emotional poem. I spend a good amount of time alone and actually enjoy it. There is pain in this poem or so I am reading and the need to get away is so strong.
