I'm not THAT old, but I seem to remember a time when we as Christians were taught to share the experience of being born again. When did you get saved? When were you born again? People would have some kind of answer, even if they did not remember the exact time. Nowadays, when asked if a person is a Christian, the answer is:
"Oh, yes, I'm a believer. "
or
"I believe."
???
Believe in what? God? Jesus? Heaven? That's all well and good if you "believe" but the Bible says the devils believe in God too, and it scares them out of their Satanic shorts !
"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." - James 2:19
The Bible also says that we are supposed to share the fact that (and how) we came to know the Lord.
2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 3And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses. 7And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.-Psalm 107:2-7
Jesus told the man who had been possesed with the "Legion" to tell others what had been done for him:
18And when He was come into the ship, he that had been possesed with the devil prayed Him that he might be with Him. 19Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee.-Mark 5:18-19
Tell what gloious things the Lord hath done for thee. How hard is that? When did you realize you needed Jesus as your Saviour? When did He enter your life? That's all a testimony is. Yes, some people can say Jesus saved them from a life of alchoholism, or they were about to kill themselves when they met Jesus, or whatever...but every person's testimony is spectacular, regardless of the story behind it. It was the day you met the LORD ! Why do you think that shouldn't be spoken of???
For those who may wonder what a testimony sounds like, here:
When I was a kid, my mother would always send my brother and I to Vacation Bible School. It was a week where we got out of the house, and weren't sitting around moaning about how bored we were.
I always enjoyed these weeks, and were sad when they were over. On top of that, they had an age limit. :( It broke my heart when I was "too old" to go to VBS.
On my last day, the kindly old gentleman who drove the church bus invited me to Sunday School. I begged my mom to let me go, and she did.
I went to Sunday School for several years. I don't remember a lot about it, save for the "Bible Tic Tac Toe" games and the songs we sung (still remember most of those).
One day, when I was around 14, I was up in the main sanctuary when my pastor was preaching. They always gave an invitation afterward. I don't remember what the sermon was about, or the words he said, but I knew I was a sinner in need of a Saviour. I stepped out into the asile, crying, and made my way to the altar. My Sunday School teacher knelt across from me, and led me to the Lord.
When I got up, I do not ever remember feeling so "clean" inside--not EVER.
Now, life as a Christian has not all been a "bed of roses" or "smooth sailing" or "sunshine and lollipops" or however you want to put it. God never said it would be. However, through studying His Word, prayer and attending church, I have learned that He holds my hand through the rough spots and yes, like the poem says, carried me.
I am not perfect. Sure, I've backslidden, turned my back on Him. When I realized my mistake and asked Him to forgive me, He did. He said He always would.
So, the next time someone asks if you are a Christian, and you say "Oh, yes, I believe." Think about it, and tell them what the HECK you "believe" in and why !!

who my whole life taught me about Jesus, showed me HIS love,
compassion and took me to church.
Yes, we are born into this world as sinners, BUT we are told by Jesus himself
that we should have the faith of children.
I really believe that young children until a certain age do not
know what wrong things are. they are taught either
good or bad by their parents, how there enviorment is,etc.
I too am still learning everyday, but by talking with God daily,
walking with his Spirit, reading by Bible and living my life
to the way HE wants me to live, that is HOW I can
show others I have my faith.
VBS workers ( I love VBS and love helping every yr) and All
who tell others about Jesus.
Just one person telling another person that Jesus is real
and HE can save you, that is wonderful.
But there are some people for one reason or another
that YOU cannot get them to understand WHY you feel
the way you do, or why you pray and pray for their
soul every day.
I have several people in my daily live that I pray for
them to accept Jesus as their saviour.
I want everyone I know to go to Heaven, and not hell.
I want everyone I know to turn away from sin and not
someday have God harden their hearts and HE will
never knock at their heart and want to come into thier
heart and life.
For me, that is sad. So I pray.
GBU!
We always went to church and I never felt like they made me go.
At age 12 I asked Jesus into my heart and to forgive me of my sins,
repented and then got baptized at churrch.
You can show others that you are a Christian by the
way you live, talk and by your actions.
You don't have to have a sign that reads" Hey, look at me,
I am a Christian."
When you show compassion towards others, that shows
that you follow what God's tells us in His word,
the Holy Bible.
Where my husband works, they cannot talk about
being a Christian, they cannot tell someone
I am praying for u. They could get fired.
BUT, by my husband showing an example of
how a Christian can act, speak and live,
His actions are showing people that he is
a believer.
His supervisor is also a Christian and teaches Sunday School,
so he and my husband do talk about their faith to each other
privately.
I often tell people "I am praying for you" or God Loves You, So do I.
In these times we are now living, more and more Christians
are being killed for their faith.
But we ALL must stand firm and trust in God.
We cannot always talk about our beliefs to people
we may meet everyday, but we can pray for
their salvation.
Pray God's will be done in their lives.
Prayers are important.
I am a Christian."
I never said you did, Kelly.
And you can show compassion to others all you want, but that dosen't make you a Christian, either. Sinners volunteer and give to charities all the time.
Good for you, Kelly. I'm doing that more and more, with more and more people, and usually to people that I've explained my faith to, at least to some degree. I know that some of these people are non-believers, so I try to say it "softly" and with empathy. It is virtually always well-received, or at least quietly received. Saying it out loud helps me to keep my commitments to remember people in prayer, and not unimportantly may help others to be aware of the importance of my faith in daily living.
we know about Jesus. That He lives and He saves.
All we need to do is accept him, repent, turn away from Sin
and let him live in our hearts and lives forever.
GBU.
The Fruit of the Spirit inside of ME that I know I am a Christian is:
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, kidness, goodness ,faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
I understand what you are saying, that people do not
go around and tell others WHO they believe in.
We are to be Fishers of men.
I get that. I really do.
Saying it out loud is important as well. but there are times
in my life in certain circumstances that I cannot say it out loud.
that is why by by actions, by the way I live, how others
precieve me, they will know that I am a believer.
By showing love and compassion to others, I am simply
showing them, that they can be that way too.
They only need to believe and trust in Jesus.
Accept HIM as their Saviour and turn away from sin.
Until the day we die, we all will make mistakes,
we are not perfect.
When I gave my heart to Jesus many yrs I ago,
I knew that ALL was forgiven.
That does not mean I am perfect, because I am not.
Colossians 3:12-14 tells us:
12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
and 15 and 16 tells us:
15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Praying is the not all that I can do. When my 11 yo niece got saved after
many yrs of me telling her about God and His love, and then when she
was baptized, I am so happy for her.
We have to let others know about what we believe, not only by
telling them, but by living our lives that way that God
wants us to, by showing love and compassion towards others.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him" (1 John 4:16). Through Jesus Christ, our greatest goal is to do all things in love. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).
I am proud to be a sinner saved thru Grace. And I do tell
others about my faith, and that Jesus is the Only way
to Salvation.
GBU all.
Be blessed everyone.

it's hard to share with others, although I have
it's most certainly hard to share a testimony here on gather since you know that the non-believers...or even the believers that don't believe the same as you will attack you.
