WDAM.com Channel 7 in Mississippi is reporting that Brett Favre will be announced as a Minnesota Viking this afternoon. Favre, who discussed a return with the Vikings earlier this summer announced he would be staying retired less than one month ago, although Vikings players have since gone on record as saying they thought Favre would still be joining the Vikings before the season started. According to sources, Favre will take snaps in the Vikings' next preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
If this is true, Favre will have un-retired for the 4th time. He pulled a "will he, won't he" act each offseason in his last couple years with the Green Bay Packers before finally retiring only to sign on with the Jets last offseason. After the 2008 season, he had surgery to repair a torn bicep after announcing his retirement from the Jets, who subsequently granted him his release.
In my opinion, Favre has made a mockery of his career with these shenanigans. He will go down as one of the top 10 QBs of all time, but all of the drama he has caused over the last several years has really hurt several franchises and tarnished his own legacy.
With all that said, having even the Brett Favre of last year (who was mediocre at best with the Jets), combined with Adrian Petersen and the NFL's best running game makes the Vikings a big-time threat for the crown this year.
