I've been looking at snakes native to Florida, and he sort of resembles the Glossy Crawfish (or is it Crayfish?) snake. But I woudn't swear to that.

I have no idea. You're much braver than I am, I nearly incapacitated just from the picture of a snake, nevermind being close enough to take a picture.

It doesn't look like it is venomous. The only native snakes in North America that are venomous (except for the coral snake) have a head that is almost triangular.

No, I'm not really worried about that. I would just like to know what he is. I researched all the venomous snakes in Florida before I got three feet from him. :)

I looked at Black Racer's because he "looks like" he would fit that. But the pictures I saw didn't look like him.

Is it black with a white underbelly? If yes then it's probably a young black rat snake.

Hmm... I thought he was cute, but I didn't get close enough to see his underbelly, the way he was perched there in my hedges. The only white I saw was on his face and throat, but that doesn't mean there wasn't more of it.

Aw he looks like a baby still. I have no clue what kind....but my son thinks it is a ground snake....Harmless and do not grow to be real big.

I love snakes to...just not to touch them. I am admirer at far.

I think they're amazing creatures. I got close enough to get some shots of "the rest of" him and he's actually three to four feet long. I didn't post those shots, because they weren't good enough to tell what you were looking at. But I saw him pretty well!

We get lots of snakes in the yard. Thanks to living close to a river and south west Florida. I have seen plentyand always try and get picture. But haven't gotten a picture of each one yet. Espicallythe one that came in my house..I do enjoy watching them and agree they are amazig creatures.

My husband is nervous about mowing, now, which is odd, because last August, we had a cottonmouth in the yard and he didn't think twice about it.

I haven't seen one of those of any kind in a couple of years. And I'm glad of that! I was never too afraid of them until there was a black one out front...maybe a 'black racer'. I have never seen anything move that fast! Ever since then, I'd rather not see any snakes.
