hahaha - hmmmm... oh. erm... well. ya know Mona... i'm not sure psycho crow would value this particular vision/thing... given that it's not a REAL bauble... (altho i have made clay beads similar to the bauble in this) - this is more like Margitte's painting of a pipe "This Is Not A Pipe". in this case the image probably isnt as value worthy to psycho crow as Magritte's painting is to the art world. ...on the other hand... erm... claw... who knows? if i remember right i photo printed this in both sizes in July... altho i'd have to check - i know i did several of the crow and bauble etc. pieces. ...given psycho crow's stress... you have my permission to use your printed version to help psycho crow in any way you wish to try... ...good luck... and well being to psycho crow too.
Wrick, This is great. I like the color of the bauble reflected in the crows. I have Lakota friends in South Dakota and your work sometimes brings to mind the Native American art I have seen. Are you influenced in any way by Native culture or is it simply the nature that is around you that brings this out?
aloha and thank you Suzie - one of the reasons i like working with digital tools is that i can work it and work it to get some of the things you've noted to work - in this case the unification of color as well as strokes is a quality that i like a lot in this piece as well.
i am aware of at least some of the Southwest styles of "Native" culture and painting in particular - altho this is true of other areas in the USA - and around the planet as well. i find a lot of that work to be very human as well as rich and exciting - something i value. i'd have to say there is some influence there altho it's not a conscious intent that i start with in most cases. there is a lot of other influence as well - the way i see it, everything i see and experience has some influence on me and that often shows up in my work. i do find it interesting that the relationship to "native" culture works does occur to a number of people. i was born in the southwest. altho i did not live there growing up i did often visit in those years and because of that i have had the opportunity to explore work there more so than some other areas. in some of my work i see a lot of Hawaiian influence too (having lived here for a while as well). mostly i am trying to be me as well as responding to the world around me where ever i am - and working with what i know or have some attraction to... those things do surface in my work at sometimes more than others..
aloha and thank you Marsha - i did move back and forth between the two programs while working this piece and i think that has a lot to do with the effects. ...plus the cintiq - which i really like working with...
cool and aloha Gary - thank you. i know the area you are talking about. it does have a face like feel to it. to be clear, the face wasnt intentional. altho the pull of that area has the power of a face - which of course is a very powerful pull for most people. we tend to focus on the face for recognition more than almost any other visual - and we are attracted to people in visual works as we are in other forms... what i like about that area is the way it works as part of a triangular movement between crows and bauble - and then circling beyond that wider and wider with that face-like area as a center. i like that movement a lot.
Thank you for the explanation - fascinating! You know, I keep looking at that pic, and it just draws me in and keeps me looking. I am rarely affected thus. I'm impressed by the ineffables that seem to be embedded ... okay, I just like it!
aloha and thank you Marilyn - yup, it does and as you see it does have a strong pull to that area. the "faceness" wasnt intended altho i do sometimes see that kind of thing in my work. ...i can also see dragons in clouds... among other things.. and that is always fun to do too. so cool on the face-like area!
