I've been spending a lot of time thinking about public health care. Some people are absolutely rabid about making abortion illegal. They just love little unborn babies. Yet, many of the same people are against a public health care program. Wouldn't prenatal care be included in the health care program? Wouldn't that save money on expensive extended hospital stays due to a lack of prenatal care.
So, they want the government to govern our wombs, but insist that the government doesn't supply aid to care for the little beings that dwell in them for nine months. Does that make any sense at all?
Jesus healed the sick. Why would anyone be against helping the ill and those who cannot be insured because of pre-existing conditions? How can that possibly be considered Christian?
Did not Jesus preach love and kindness to all we call neighbors? So, what's with the pack mentality at the town meetings? So much screaming, name-calling, and hatred. Do they worship Christ with those mouths and hearts?
I think the religious right likes to think they own Jesus, because truly following him means they have to stand for loving, creating peace with, and helping each other. They want to own him, because they actually hate what he stood for, and if they are in control they can twist his words, tarnishing his reputation all the while.
My conclusion is that the religious right actually harbors a firm dislike of Jesus. How can I think anything else?

They seem to have a different view of Him than some people. Maybe it's because of all those one on ones they claim to have had. Apparently he's really kind of judgmental and easy to anger.
But they love the passion story.
Brotherly love for all races and religions as long as they're not in my back yard mentality.
Make the baby's life more important than the mother's in some cases....makes it illegal to teach our children in school health classes how not to get aids but would prefere abstinence like Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol is making the circuit talking about....lol
However astute of you to have this epiphany and finally realize the hypocrisy of it all with them and how deep the madness really flows within the cult.
Basically the religious extremists have gotten so far away from the true teachings of the bible that it's ridiculous. If you're a Christian and believe the bible then they way they are acting and carrying on.....not accepting other religions and races.....fear mongering and war mongering, lying and attacking the president because he is a black man, because he has a different ideology and name, not letting this country really carry on civilized debate over such an important issue as healthcare, not listening to anyone but FOX entertainers who call themselves "news reporters"......well....none of THAT appears to be very Christian.
I think with recent attempts to thwart major reforms in health, they obviously would like to see MORE people born in stables.
The seedy part of Miami Beach is called South Beach now. The hotel my grandparents lived in for several years is still there. Built in the '20s it's gone through booms and busts.
Someone feels they are Christian so whatever they say or do or feel is the righteous way and anyone that doesnt feel the same way they do is wrong.
What they dont understand is it doesnt matter how they feel it matters what Jesus wanted and his perception not theirs.
Its not the label its the people and there are those type of people in any and every group you stereotype.
Unfortunately stereotyping people and then attacking a whole group based on the actions of a few is an incendiary tactic and only inflames disagreement and discord.
But then it takes tolerance in order to to step above this type of rhetoric. Funny how few seem to have any tolerance for anyone that does not conform to what they think is best for the world. Thus each side shows its intolerance by its demeaning, provocative statements decrying the intolerance of the other and inciting others to hatred and bias.
I often feel like going up to people who do 'witnessing' on street corners, (shouting out passages from the Bible and trying to instill the fear of God/Bill O'Reilly in passers-by) and explain to them that when people shout, point and froth at the mouth, it's much less attractive or effective than merely sitting down and talking. It makes people not even WANT to listen.
If you want to engage me in ANY phliosphical debate, it's got to be a dialogue not a monologue.
I think the answer to your question is no, they don't hate him. Nor do they know anything about him or have any respect for him. It's just part of the Christian Lifestyle to toss his name around.
I'd imagine that he's pretty disgusted with them at this point.
I avoid the fundamentalists totally.
None of my enemies ever paid me a cent so I shook them off. It's a relief to get rid of that dead weight.
hugs and Blessings to all!!! ( yes that includes you dear Sandy, but you knew that, right? LOL)
