The alien thriller District 9 topped the box office this weekend, hauling in $37 million and beating out GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra. GI Joe did show that it has some legs as it made another $22 million to close in on the $100 million mark in total. However, since the budget for GI Joe was $175 million it has a way to go to make the movie a success.

Rounding out the top five were The Time Travelers' Wife at number three ($19.2 million); Julie & Julia at number four ($12.4 million; $43.7 million total); and ($6.9 million; $99.0 million total).

I went into it, thinking that I wouldn't sympathize with the aliens. I was wrong. The filmmakers did such a good job not only with the visuals, but making my emotions go back and forth throughout the movie.
