Free Patterns for Knitting and Crocheting

I bought some cotton Bernat yarn when in Canada last year to keep my hands busy while traveling. I loved the free patterns they included on the yarn labels, and there were free patterns I picked up where I bought the yarn, as well, for all kinds of garments and household items. I loved their inventive dishrag patterns and their bath mitt. I was looking for the bath mitt pattern last week in order to start another travel project, but couldn't find it...

However, I thought to look up Bernat online and discovered they had these patterns and more to download. Though I couldn't print the pattern out with our printer, since our computer is getting worked on right now, and we're borrowing our son's, I scribbled it out by hand, and so while travelling and camping this week I was able to finish one bath mitt and started another. These will be Christmas gifts for family and friends this year, stuffed with a fancy bar of soap. Unfortunately I can't download a photo at the moment, but you can go to the Bernat website and find dozens of free patterns for your knitting and crocheting inspiration...copy and paste this into your browser:

Lots of company sites have free patterns. I don't knit or crochet, but love finding free cross stitch patterns.

I like saving the labels off yarns with the free pattern. My favorite is off the Sugar N Cream yarn that you use in crocheting or knitting dishcloths.

I used to use that yarn all the time...I love cotton yarns for summer crochet tops...well, when I used to make them, lol.
I can't knit or crochet...I always get the stitches too tight and my hands probably couldn't take the repetitive motion ..they ache just thinking about it : - )

My Daughter In Law Sharla tried to teach me to crochet. She would come over every week to check my progress and take out what was not right, finally she asked "Mom, do you want me to just take this over?" It seemed the best recourse.

Cool...I know someone near and dear who would love a bath mitt. I have a cool baby bootie pattern and a panda pattern...both crochet if you are interested.

I'd really like to get back to knitting this winter. I learned years ago when I was in nursing school and made many afghans for my family. I'd also like to learn to crochet. Maybe this winter???

Knitting and crochet, wonderful wintertime pastimes......and you can teach your grandkids! My mom taught me to knit, and my grandma, to crochet (though only had time for single crochet).

Sounds like your family will be getting some lovely hand crafted gifts this year. I always enjoy those more than store bought. It makes me feel like the person thought of me while making it especially if it is made in my favorite colors or colors they know will go well in a certain room.

I used to knit years ago. I should take it up again. I know I still have some yarn, so I will check out those websites. I was always losing mittens, so I knitted a cabled pair thinking that when I lost one I could just knit another and still have a pair. Guess what? I lost them both at the same time and had to knit a new pair. I've knitted a lot of scarves, and sweaters for my son when he was a baby and toddler. :=)
