Last month, the Lady Bess published a three-part photo essay related to Provincetown, Mass.
Bob's photographs were spectacular, and captured some of the natural beauty of Cape Cod and the charms of the old town.
On the Way to Provincetown by elizabeth e.
I have vintage postcards that feature the Pilgrim Monument, the first anchoring of the Mayflower at Provincetown and the Mayflower Compact, and a view of town from the top of the Pilgrim Monument.
The unmailed linen postcards are crisp and clear, just as they were when printed about 1940.

Thanks for the link to my article.
I loved the photo essays, and remembered that I had some Pilgrim Memorial cards.
I have never traveled on a sail ship as large as the Mayflower - although one can take rides on some of the replica ships.
Have you ever visited Provincetown?
Provincetown is quite charming, still preserving some flavor of its days as a port.
I loke the vintage cards, but the photo-essays of elizabeth really capture the flavor of the place.
The "linen cards", circa 1930-1950 are not really made of linen. It is a textured paper that resembles linen cloth.
The texture made possible the use of better inks (more surface, quick drying) and required less hand-coloring of photographs - which is how all vintage color postcards were created.
