My 8 year old has BO!

I'm still in shock!  How can my baby already have BO?  He's too cute and hairless to have BO, right?!  LOL!  Seriously, Chandler has BO and I am just shocked by it all.  As his mom, I just can't help but think that he's too young to have BO already.

I remember about a year or so ago that Tiffany G. had posted about her young daughter having an issue with BO and having to use deoderant.  I'm pretty sure her daughter was 8 at the time as well, so I know I'm not the only mom with this issue!  I've looked for her article but I can't seem to find it.

A few nights ago we were playing hockey in the living room together as a family.  Girls against Boys - of course Stephy and I were kicking the boys butts.  LOL!  Well, Chandler scored a goal and went to give his Dad a "high 5" and that's when it happened.  My hubby could hardly stand the smell that was coming from Chandler's little pits!

Hubby told me to smell Chandler's pits, so of course I did.  EWWWWWW, it was awful!  How can such little pits have such big BO?  He's never had it before, so it was totally new.

We gave him a deoderant of his own and told him to use it every morning, he's thinks he's so cool! LOL  But I just can't help but be shocked at the fact that my 8 year old baby actually needed to use it.

Have you had any experience with this and your children?  I can't even remember when I started using deoderant.

My daughter is 7 and she has to wear deodarant, it's not that bad but you can tell. I was told to buy her Dove for sensitive skin and it's works.

I buy DOVE also. The original scent is the one I like.

Bridget, you would be amazed at the amount of kids in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade with BO. I have a very sensitive nose and I remember walking the halls when I was helping out in the library years ago. I would arrive just after their afternoon recess when the school was filled with moving, sweaty kids and my God did it smell BAD in the hallway! I would almost throw up!
I know I was at least in 6th grade when I started but you know, most parents probably never notice the smells coming from their kids. I bet way more kids have it than anyone would imagine!

I'm laughing too hard to reply and make any sense right now, will type a real comment when I stop laughing, no, I'll do it now. I don't remember what age Dave started using deodorant, but I do know it varies with different children and it's nothing to be worried about. Sorry, still cracking up.

Wow, age 8? I can't imagine having to buy my daughters deodorant in 6 years!!! When they see my deodorant in the bathroom, they call it "smell good" and ask to have some. So cute!

my daughter was 8 when she started with Deo. her BO was not that bad,
but it was noticeable.
Kids now days seem to mature at earlier ages.

Bridget...many years ago I owned a daycare center and had a few children with a body odor issue. I looked up a few links, rather than just give you my opinion and of those links, this one I felt was most informative...

Oh yeah! My daughter had bad enough BO to practically knock out a skunk. She was right around 8 or 9 years old.

My 7 year old son (will be 8 in October) is beginning to need it too. He's ok if he's not very active, but it's not typical for him not to be active LOL.

I probably needed "BO Killer" around that age also but I had crappy parents.

The girls just started using it and they are thirteen, didn't need it till now and I made sure to keep checking. I think I didn't need it till I was in middle school either.

I remember when I saw hair on my first borns legs and arm pits, it was a shock.

I don't remember when I had to have deodorant. I know I started wearing a bra at an early age, but that's a different topic lol.
Wow, that is young! Our daughter didn't start using it until she was 11 or 12.

LOL, I'm glad I made so many people laugh! :) He's actually only needed to use it a couple of days, but he thinks it's cool to use it now! LOL!

I've done some internet searching and I'm not the only one in this position, that makes me feel so much better! :)

I checked Zachary after he came in from playing outside for about 2 hours, just to be sure that he didn't smell and so far so good. But it'll come and I'm not looking forward to the day when he knocks me on my behind from the smell!

They all go through a stage where they "smell" but it is not just BO, there is just an odd smell.

We check Branson, who is 8, regularly for the need. He likes to wear my husbands deodorant and I do not discourage it at all. It makes him feel better to smell nice.

Christopher is almost 16 and still really doesn't smell bad...I guess it's to make up for his other medical issues. LOL. Now the neighbor boy, he can clear a room. OMG. He stinks!!! He has need deordorant since he was about 8 or so...and boy, you can tell when he doesn't use it or use enough. I've picked him up from school and had to open all the windows just to drive home.

Angela is 12 and needs it...and has since about the end of 5th grade. She dances a lot and is sweaty a lot, so it's understandable.

How old are up supposed to be to have Bo? I don't have BO, just ask me I will tell you that I don't. guess you can have BO at any age.

my son is just beginning to get b.o. and he's 15. he does get sweaty sports head though... you know when they were young and they would sweat and you could smell it from their head?

but my son is just beginning puberty.. does that mean that your son is in puberty? does he have hair on his legs?

My daughter who is 12 HAD to make sure to take showers every day no matter what at around 9. She is sooo allergic to so many things, and had already had a reaction to deoderant that I put off finding her one that worked until this year. We got lucky and the first one we tried seems to work just fine with no breakouts.
I can say that a large ammount of kids need deoderant and to step up their personal hygene around age 8. My nephew has worn deoderant since then, but he was really active.. things like soccer and such "real sports" like Chandler... a real athlete.

On a side note.. my daughter who is 6 gets BO.. I noticed it first because she had a wart on her foot so I was putting those bandaids for removing them on her foot every other day, and her feet stank BAD every morning after a night time bath. Closer attention was paid and I am thinking she needs to start using deoderant as well... at 6!!!!!

I don't remember that important milestone....lol. I guess it did not make much of an impression on me when my son was growing up.
