Back on August 1st we were headed up to the Brainerd Lakes area to visit my inlaws, but we couldn't help but check out a "neighborhood" sale taking place the full length of 50th St. in the Nokomis neighborhood.  I really like the Nokomis/Longfellow/Seward sections of South Minneapolis, because there are a lot of folks who retired but didn't move away, meaning they've still got a life's worth of kitschy stuff and vintage tools and mambo records.

Let's see.  What did we find?

If it hadn't been for the sheets, we wouldn't have been able to fill the bag.  Man, the junk . . .

Cute doesn't work on me.  I'm not big on pink either.

I really wanted this, but the people were inside the house and I just expect anyone selling something to show a certain amount of initiative.

You may be wondering how I can say I don't "get" cute, and then say I like this.  I don't know . . . it's funny . . . it's a work of art . . . for some reason I do appreciate this but I didn't appreciate the mass produced crap above.

Flickering pumpkin candle

I couldn't fit it in the car.  I don't know who I'd sell it to.  Man, this was nice.

Miniature chimera

I have a standing order for a chimera (I think that's how it's spelled), but I'm sure he meant the real thing.  This could burn a wad of paper at a time.

How could I not take a picture of that though.  I mean, I coudn't find something more alien to my reality if I was in a Mars lander.  Got some funny looks.  Don't care.

Sterling rings

I'm getting closer to finding a place to sell silver that will give me a halfway fair price.  I've accumulated about a pound.

I think the one might be for nursing, but there's room in my mom's shop inventory for something like that.  Maybe some guy will buy it and wear it to his construction job : )

Hi Ron! So happy to see this feature has returned.

I think the word you're looking for is chiminea. I have a small one and a tiny one I made.

A chimera, in biology and mythology, is a creature that has two or more different populations of genetically distinct cells that originated in different zygotes. (Four parent cells.) Sometimes it happens in the human population. (I was the videotech in an abnormal human physiology class for 2 quarters. Some of it stuck.)

Yup. That's it.

What's been stewing in my noodle lately is building a big outdoor fireplace on my mom's land in Colorado. A place where you can build a small bonfire that has a chimney to swoop the smoke away, and a circular wall that keeps out the breeze and reflects the fire heat back into the circle. It would take a lot of work, but I think it would be golden when completed.

It wouldn't alarm me, Donna. Some time back I learned not everything I see is really there, and in the case of monsters, that's always the case. It's been decades since I've seen a monster, and that of course is a good thing as well.

I missed looking at this series. You got some good finds although I have to admit I would have bought the Halloween "candle" because I love Halloween and that's one of the things i look for at sales.

Love the fabric! You got a great deal on the rings and sun catchers too! Somehow I managed to make it through another year without making it to a sale. It is not like I need anything, just that I love to look at what is out there. Your posts are my only link to these sales. I always look forward to seeing what you came across. : )

I like most things I see that were made with passion. The world is full of things that were made to sell, and all of that has only so much effort put into it. There are better things out there, and they're in art studios and yard sales. Yard sales are better.

I'm so glad that you're back posting again. I love it! My favorite was the wooden table and bench. So rustic but useful. I probably would have only admired it to though. Space is a commodity around here!!

I know of places I would use that bench - places where you sit with your food in front of you and look out over something worth looking at. I like that it lacks the bench on the other side, and it's too narrow to be that kind of table. Not that there is anything bad about tables that have everyone gathered around, but there's something unique about one where you sit on one side and face something.

About a third of what we buy is for our own use. We save a lot of money. It's made all the difference in our finances.

I'd buy those rings, lovely price. Would have been good gifts for my grandsons. They wear silver rings, if they're not too 'girlie', those were perfect.

Christy, there are probably better posts to show him. Some weeks I find fabulous tools, and I'm always hunting up scrap metal (brass is bringing $1.50 a pound these days). The stuff I saw this weekend may give him the wrong impression about the diversity of guy stuff that can be found at yard sales. Google "would you buy this or not", and check a couple of the other posts I've done . . .
