I have let Gather member and friends know my daughter was diagnosed with Adhd roughly 2 years old. She has been having a lot of trouble finding the right medication. Her second does she receives about 3 pm now is Ritalin because her other one had a hold placed on it. Besides her eye problems and having to wear a patch over her better eye for four hours a day.
My daughter has been seeing a psychologist. Luckily found a female who works great with children that accepts my husbands insurance through work. The psychologist seems to be really listening. Just based on a few visits she has ordered further testing on my daughter. She thinks she could have just ADHD or possibly have Asperger Syndrome / disorder. Because of how my daughter will bang her head on the wall and sit and rock back and further among other things. I currently as well as my husband and sister in law filling out a ton of paperwork answering questions. So hopefully by end of September or early October I will know if there is more going on with my daughter than the simple ADHD diagnoses. At least now I have someone listening to me and my concerns.
I do not know anything about Asperger Syndrome / disorder except what I could read up online about it. It does make me wonder if my nephew has it as well. As he does the banging head and rocking motion for years. He is 11 yrs old and my sister refuses to get him checked out. Which I find truly sad. Since I live 1200 miles away. There isn't much I can do except put a bug in another sister ear to say something.
Right now I am really overwhelmed everything.

prayers with you on finding out for sure and getting it treated.
I've had a number of kids with Aspergers in my classes over the years, and it's not really horrible, in light of other conditions. Most of them are great with me, but I accommodate them when it comes to any group work, etc. They have a hard time dealing with other kids quite often, but most of them are brilliant, and if they get support at school, they're very successful.
I wish your family all the best, and I hope you find the right medical and educational support.
I know my daughter could be affected by stress but I do know not think all her symptoms is from stress because her actions have come when a time in our lives was not so stressful.
Like you I knew something wasn't right with my son when he was little. The same people who brushed it off (not always because they didn't believe me, but also because who wants to think that something is wrong with a loved one) are mostly supportive of how we are trying to take control of the situation. Unfortunately Zachary has a school doctor who isn't open to anything but his ways of thinking and his ideas. If he doesn't believe it then it's not true. And then the family who don't support me throw in scare tactics like info about how schools get paid for every "disabled" child in their roster so they jump at the chance to diagnose children just for the extra cash. It does scare me. But I have to worry about what's right for Zachary and right now his treatments are keeping him more under control than he has ever been, without making him into the zombie I feared it would.
I'm looking forward to hearing the results!
