We went to an Asian market the other day to check out some of the odd food they have. I didn't expect to find chicken feet in the meat case. I was wondering what in the world one would do with chicken feet, and when I rounded the corner I found out. They had a deli where they had them roasted (gag) I didn't get a shot of the roasted ones because the guy behind the counter didn't seam to friendly. But that could have been because we were laughing our way threw the store at some of the strange things we found.
Here are the chicken feet.

Have you ever heard of Grass Jelly, Now doesn't that sound good? Not!! If anyone has tried this one please tell us about it.
And what about canned quail eggs, I almost bough those just to look in the can, maybe next trip.

Another tasty looking item roasted squid with seasoning. Or what we call squid jerky.
And last thing on the list of strange things to see was green bean and red bean ice cream, now wouldn't that be good on a hot day, I think not.
These are some of the things we didnt buy on our trip to the asian market. What is the strangest thing you have found in a store, got a photo come back and post a link to it because Id love to see it.

Pig ears, pig snout, sheep uterus, and pig blood. I have eaten it all but the uterus, I think.
In the Asian store here about 11 years ago, East East, I found Kwan Loong and White Flower Analgesic balms. Both are extremely great for sore muscles and works far better than Ben-Gay or Icy-Hot.
I know we've ALL eaten dishes in Chinese restaurants where chicken feet might have been used as part of the dishes, mainly in the stock-making process. In some Asian restaurants, there's usually an offering in the menu with chicken feet in the appetizer section. It's a delicacy that is highly sought and well appreciated by those who know what they want in taste and style.
I've used Quail Eggs a lot... if you know your way around the culinary world you'd realize that it is a specialty item, a gourmet food, so to speak. They are dainty looking, and make very pretty accents and parts of dishes, tasting like regular eggs. In these days where everything is miniaturized even in the food department (look at mini vegies like carrots, radishes, eggplants and the like), the Quail Eggs are highly prized by the knowledgable gourmet chefs.
Grass Jelly is another thing I have not tried yet either unless it is the same as Pandan... Pandan is an aromatic palm leaf we use in the Philippines to color and flavor food.
Roasted Squid is not a bad snack... don't knock it until you've tried it. Guys especially love it as a Tapa item with their beer!
Red Bean and Green Bean Ice Cream? I haven't tried them but, we regularly eat red beans in crushed ice with other sugared fruit (macapuno coconut, jackfruit, ube, pineapple, sago) and milk, we call this concoction Halo-Halo. It is a very popular merienda/ snack in the Philippines.
When I have time next week, after all my guests leave, I'll take pictures of the "strange things already on MY PANTRY" and post it for you :-)
Also, the picture on the squid jerky is adorable!
I'd have a hard time eating any of that. And I think Tory should stay away from the sushi. Ick!!
Someone gave me a few cans of the grass jelly drink. We opened one; three of us drank some. One guzzled it and said it wasn't too bad. The other guy and I tasted it and wished we hadn't: it was this murky greenish liquid with tiny chunks of gelatin in it, also a murky green. Yu-uck. Oooh, maybe I have a pic...
